Breaking: Circuit City Liquidated, 35,000 Jobs Lost

MSNBC is reporting that Circuit City is done. Reports are saying that over 35,000 people will be out of a job by the time the entire company is liquidated. There’s not really any more information other than that and I’m not seeing this on other major news sites. Stay tuned if there’s mind-blowing information to be had. Otherwise, you heard it here (after MSNBC of course).

No $99 iPhone For Walmart

Last week, I briefly discussed a rumor floating around that Walmart would offer a special 4GB version of the iPhone for $99. It seemed like bullshit then and it appears that it still is nothing more than a load of crap. Now Macrumors has received an image of a Walmart training document that shows the iPhone 3G for $197. Yes. You will save a whopping $2 by buying the phone at Walmart. I’m assuming Walmart is just taking a $2 loss on each phone in order to appear more competitive.

On top of it all, Bloomberg has confirmed that the iPhone will be coming to Walmart this month. Apple will no doubt sell more iPhones thanks to this deal it brokered but a $99 iPhone would have created pure madness that would have made Black Friday look childish.

Beat A Dead Horse: Circuit City Closing 155 Stores

Best Buy sucks but Circuit City has fucked up so bad in the past five years, that it now has to close 155 stores. An official letter got sent over to Consumerist today, detailing the arrangement. Employees will not be getting any severance either, it seems. With its stock trading under $1 at many times, Circuit City has got to act quick to save itself. A merger with another struggling company could work, but to be honest, I just don’t see Best Buy’s main “competitor” healing from these wounds.

What about you? Do you even go to Circuit City for your gadgets and technology-related junk?

Greenpeace States the Obvious About Gaming Consoles

playindirty.png

Did you know that gaming consoles can contain materials hazardous to the environment? Of course you did. How else would a Playstation 3 crank out those sick graphics without some kind of processing unit that’s guaranteed to rot the earth.

Then, in comes Greenpeace to spoil everyone’s fun. This year, it tested the Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 for its “Playing Dirty” report. Surprisingly, all the new consoles contain no mercury and only trace amounts of lead. Of course, Greenpeace found plenty of PVC and plastic softener to bitch about. What re-design for these consoles would you prefer, Greenpeace? Perhaps a biodegradable pile of cow shit with the guts of an Xbox 360 in there? I think I’m supposed to plug this CAT-5 cable into the port some dude painted on the grass.
