Intel’s Core i7 processors are wicked fast. Faster than that new Lamborghini we know nothing about. Of course, the earliest devices that will utilize the processor are gaming PCs. The Core i7 was officially launched yesterday and computer companies like CyberPower are already stocking the assembly lines with this quad-core powerhouse.

CyberPower unveiled its latest and fastest gaming PC, the Black Pearl, which will pack the Intel’s new Core i7 processor inside. With a 3.2GHz 965 Extreme Edition CPU and a sickening 12GB of RAM, this computer is looking too fast for its own good. Crysis on the highest settings powered by a dual ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphic cards with 2GB video RAM? Ain’t nothing for this PC. Try two Crysis’ on the highest setting running simultaneously. This computer can handle it, no problem. There plenty of room for all your pirated software, so storage space will never be an issue. It has two separate 300GB HDD, 10,000RPM SATA II units from Western Digital. Or perhaps you’d prefer to use the 1TB, SATA II drive, which is also included. Not bad for a gaming rig that’s only priced at $3,999.

Computing isn’t always about raw power and trying to build the best gaming rig out there. Sometimes the simple bare necessities will suffice.  Lenovo’s first netbook, the IdeaPad S10-42312CU, comes with all the bare necessities you’ll ever need to surf the web.

Featuring a 10.2-inch 1024×600 widescreen display, an Intel Atom N270 single core processor running at 1.6GHz, GMA 950 integrated graphics and Windows XP Home, this netbook packs quite the punch considering it only weighs 2.65 pounds. This specific model comes with 512MB of DDR2 memory and an 80GB hard drive, but other models will be available later with more RAM, hard drive space and a variety of colors. Unfortunately, it only comes with a 3-cell battery, but on the bright side the keyboard is 85-percent of the size of a full-sized laptop keyboard, meaning this thing is pretty damn small. Hopefully it doesn’t use up too much juice. It’s available now for an eye-popping $439 dollar price tag. Don’t forget to slap a warranty on that.

This computer sure is tiny. Fit-PC Slim is the ultimate mini-rig for anyone who isn’t satisfied with USB drives as a means of transporting data. It’s dimensions are 110 x 100 x 30mm and it packs a mean 500MHz AMD Geode LX800 processor, Ethernet jack, VGA output, WiFi, and a 2.5-inch hard drive option for taking data on the go.

Two sizes of memory are available: 256MB or 512MB. Obviously, depending on how much memory and/or hard drive space you want to put into this thing, the price could range from $220 to $335 and you’ll also need some tiny speakers to match. Be careful not to leave it around the house, though. I’d hate to hear that you crushed your three hundred dollar computer just because you weren’t watching where you step.

Today, Intel launched its first ever six-core processor: the Xeon 7400. While the name might not be as complex as the name Sony is giving to their new line of laptops, it certainly should be. Everything about this processor is “no joke” as it is geared towards high-end computing, like those used by the scientists working on the Large Hadron Collider.

An estimated 50-percent speed boost over its predecessor is possible as this processor peaks around 2.66GHz with 130W of power.  The new Xeons are going to be the last of their kind before Intel makes the jump to the new Core i7 architecture. Things are certainly looking fast for the computing world.

Digi-Key has unleashed its power house single-board computer called the Beagle Board. This developer dream board is perfect for DIY projects and ground level design work. Don’t judge it by its size either, its processor: the ARM Cortex A8, runs up to 600MHz while delivering over 1,200 MIPS (million instructions per second). It packs quite a punch for a 3″ x 3″ board.

It connects to your computer via mini-A to standard-A adapter with a high speed USB 2.0 port and even supports 1280×1024 DVI-D video output. Listen, I could go on and on about the heat this baby’s packing, but it’d be best to get one for yourself and try it out. Maybe you’ve got what it takes to make a game on it, or even better: a robot. It’s relatively cheap, too. At $149, its the least expensive, most powerful development board on the market that I’ve heard of.

We’ve seen a lot of neat stuff made with the Arduino processor, like that Mad Hatter top hat or the gigantic keyboard. With the infinite possibilities the Arduino offers, where are all the games made for this development platform?

Enter the ArduGame, a hand held device that runs a small game that has yet to be named. Using an OLED display and the controls of an old Sony PSP, the folks at BricoGeek have crafted a fine piece of gaming hardware that could potentially put the portable Atari 2600 to shame. It finally proves that the Arduino is a fun and flexible tool for game programming.

For the emerging digital trend of the Terabyte, computer scientists are realizing that if there are going to be terabyte sized applications, theres a need for a processing chip that can handle that amount of information.

The Intel R&D department have made a chip that has eighty, thats right, eighty processing cores. The chip can perform more then a trillion operations at once time. And we thought quad core processors were exciting?

The chip is the first to ever display Teraflop performance. Enough processing speed and power to control terabytes of information at a time. Don’t have yourself a coronary now. We know it’s exciting, but as it is still in reasearch and development, we still have some time to wait to see these in common operation.

Even more impressive? The entirety of the chips cores fit in a space smaller then a fingernail. While also using less electricity then most home appliances. Ahh, the wonders of technology. (more…)

Since Intel has released its Core 2 Duo line of processors, AMD has been out of the spot light, shunned to behind the center stage. Ever since, they have been scrambling to come up with something that can overpower the double core chips.

AMD has just released another chip for the Athlon 64 line: the X2 6000+. What’s suprising is that is has been released before what we were expecting. This dual-core CPU makes the jump to the world of 3GHz. It shows similarities to the previous chips in the line through features such as its 2MB level two chache. It carries a $599 price tag from Newegg.com (the go-to online computer store). This price is OEM, which doesn’t ship with a fan. But then again, if you are buying this high end chip, you probably already have your own high end fan! — Nik Gomez

AMD releases Athlon 64 X2 6000+ early [Electronista]

Late last year Intel released the Q6700, their brand new baby that was a Core 2 Quad (not duo) and had a clock speed of 2.66 GHz. So what is the difference between the Q6700 and the brand new Q6600, well, other than 100, there is a difference in clock speed of .26Ghz. The new Q6600 runs at 2.4Ghz intsead of 2.66. Also, the Q6600 is locked, meaning there is no option of overclocking this quad core monster.

The talk that quad cores are essentially two duos placed on the same chip is true, and the Q6600 is just two Core 2 Duo E6600 cores on a single socket with a pair of 4MB L2 caches and a 1066MHz frontside bus. So other than the locked state of the Q6600 and its clock speed, there is no difference between the two CPUs. So why is this new processor significant? It is really the first quad-core CPU to hit and be aimed at the mainstream market. While no solid price has been released by Intel yet, it will probably be priced a bit under the Q6700’s $999 price point.
