Giant Printer Uses Painball Guns to Create Wall-Sized Prints
The Facade Printer, created by German design group Sonice Development GmbH, is a computer-controlled paintball gun that reproduces wall-sized images on, well, walls. The printer literally shoots the images onto the wall with eagle-eye precision. Now I might be able to finish my giant mural of Zombie Spock without too much trouble. Link [via]
No Wonder I Have Six Printers In Storage
Seriously though, other than the text book industry, I think the printer ink industry is the number one price gouging enterprise. There’s no reason I should be paying more for ink than for a damn printer. I’d rather go drain an octopus. Link
Cats Do The Darndest Things
Ever since the Internet was created, one popular theme of entertainment has always shown through any of the other bullshit that appears on the Internet: puzzled domesticated animals battling technology. You might have seen a dog versus a vacuum cleaner mouse or perhaps a parakeet fighting some crazy flying Halloween decoration. Cat versus the printer is a new one to me. The thunderous sound effects are a nice touch. Don’t forget to check out the last 7 seconds, that’s the... Continue reading
Spinning LEGOs Produce 3-D Blobs
Three-dimensional printing is tough. That is, if you don’t make one out of LEGOs. Gene Hacker posted his creation on Instructables: a 3-D printer made out of LEGO bricks. It’s still in its infancy of development but is more than capable of rendering 3-D blobs of frosting. Unlike regular Cartesian system printers, the one Gene built operates in polar coordinates, in other words, a circular motion of printing. When asked why he didn’t build a Cartesian system printer (similar to... Continue reading
My Head Hurts, Turn Off The Light
This table lamp designed by Alexander Lervik might look like just an ordinary lamp modeled after the human brain, but it’s so much more to Mr. Lervik. It’s called MYBrain and interestingly enough, it is Alexander Lervik’s brain. OK, it’s not his actual brain but it’s as close as it ever will be while propped on a stand, having light illuminating from it. The lamp is based on the artist’s real brain after an MRI scanning and processing through a... Continue reading
Three-Dimensional Printer Thinks Green
Industrial design students at Victoria University presented innovative prototypes. The project was to design and make an eco-friendly three-dimensional printer in four weeks with a limited budget. Some crazy designs came out of the printers created but my favorite is the “Equinox”, pictured above. It focuses the power of the sun to selectively dry layers of recycled paint which in turn builds up fluid forms. It also happens to be the sweetest looking gyro I’ve ever seen. Link (via)
Quick Cash for Dead Batteries (Plus: Bonus Swindling)
Apparently, there’s good money to be made in recycling older batteries. A recent Instructables article showcases how one sly fox made a few hundred bucks doing this. Seems all you have to do is round up a bunch of batteries, clean ‘em up and you’ll make a fortune by turning them in at your local scrap yard. This article reminded me of another way to make a very quick buck. Office Depot and Staples have a program where you can... Continue reading
Trak Printer Attaches Right Onto Your Laptop
There are so many more options these days when it comes to sharing information, that printed media (and as a result, printers themselves) is becoming phased out more everyday. The Trak concept is the printer re-imagined for modern times. Everything is about mobility these days, so people want a printer that can be brought anywhere with them. The Trak attaches right to the back of your laptop’s display. Featuring a detachable printer head and USB power, Trak has an ultra-compact... Continue reading
