Power Nerds: 16-port USB Hub

16-port-monsterjpg

I talk a lot of shit on nerds needing this but I’m guilty as charged. The whole reason I’m posting this ridiculous hub of ports? Because I need one desperately. Sure, it has a selector for use with two computers but I need this for my desktop iMac G5. Why? I have about 5 devices that I use for music production, an SD card reader, an iPhone charger, two external hard drives and my Arduino. Yeah, you could say I’m a port junkie. A 16-in-1 solution won’t come cheap, though. Expect to shell out $105 for this bad boy should you decide you need it.

LEGO USB Hub

If you’ve got $12 and a whole ‘lotta patience, you can score one of these colorful LEGO USB hubs from Korea. Four ports of fury and you can build with them! Why do all the good gadgets come from Asia? Americans always get the shaft, save for the iPhone.

The Space Cube: Apple-sized Computer

To be honest, I haven’t seen a computer smaller than the Space Cube. The computer, about the size of an Apple, is lacking beefy specs but comes equipped with plenty of ports and options to save grace. Inside, you’ll find a 300MHz processor, 64MB of DDR RAM and a 1GB CompactFlash Card. Yes. A fucking gig of storage and enough RAM to open Notepad. Fantastic.

Don’t pass it by just yet, though. The Cube comes with a plethora of ports and outputs. You’ll find SP Outs, Mic Ins, Ethernet ports, VGA support, USB port, speaker plug and more. Apparently, there’s also a “Space Wire” port, which is some proprietary NASA/ESA bullshit. It doesn’t matter, anyway. At nearly $2800, you’d have to be out of your mind to buy one of these.

Guitar Hero Effect Pedal confirmed through 360 instructions

gh360_pedalport.jpg

Thanks to an early shipment of Guitar Hero II for Xbox 360, there’s now hard evidence to confirm that Guitar Hero is adding the use of an effect pedal to the game. A diagram of the guitar controller in the 360 instructions shows a plotted port for an effect pedal. Before you get your gaming panties in a knot, take warning that Konami has been known to add mysterious effect ports to music games in the past without anything to show for it, which they did for Beatmania III.

On the back of this instruction slip, the effect port is labled as still being unavailable for now, as can be seen by the lack of hardware. But Konami might just have something up their sleeves. — Andrew Dobrow
