Nintendo Strikes Back

Sorry to burst your bubble, pirates, but it seems that Nintendo’s next handheld unit will block flash carts used for pirating games. It took Nintendo a long enough time to take legal action against the creators of such flash carts as the R4 or N5, now it’s making damn sure that no one is going to illegally emulate its games.

The following flash carts are confirmed not to work on the Nintendo DSi:

Quite Simply, Windows 7 Has Leaked

Don’t act surprised. It was only a matter of time before Microsoft’s next OS hit the torrent sites, considering Microsoft was handing out copies of Windows 7 to PDC (Professional Developers Conference) attendees. Both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions have leaked, weighing in at 2.72GB and 3.36GB, respectively.

It looks like a lot of people are hopping on these torrents on The Pirate Bay, so if you can’t use a private tracker, might as well raise a glass of rum to toast.

But how’s Windows 7 working out? Here’s what one downloader said:

RealNetworks Releases RealDVD, Hollywood Cries

Have a Windows PC and a Netflix account? Perfect. Grab your credit card and get ready to hand over $30 to RealNetworks. Yes, that Real. The one with the obsolete streaming audio format. Yes! That’s the one!

You see, Real just released RealDVD. It’s a legal application that allows you to rip DVDs to up to five computers without ramifications. It’s legal, easy to use and will surely benefit the amateur pirate. Hollywood wasted no time in threatening RealNetworks and now, in a counter move, Real has sued the major studios. It wants a judge to essentially insist that RealDVD is legit and here to stay. As Chamillionaire says, controversy sells.

Quickie: Adobe Announces CS4

Adobe today announced the next installment of it’s popular editing software suite that includes Photoshop and Illustrator. The beta has been available on Bit Torrent sites for quite a bit now but today, we’re getting real. There’s going to be tons of new features, tons of performance upgrades and quite possibly tons of coked-out design going on the minute it hits store shelves. Photoshop CS4 is supposed to take advantage of your graphics card but that has yet to be confirmed. Read on, get the skinny then get the torrent. Bon voyage!

Tons Of Hacking Books Available Online For Free

Fancy a PDF read on a new topic? Of course you do! Learning is essential to getting into a hacker mindset. How are you going to exploit a server’s vulnerabilities without knowing any Perl? Lucky for us, the team at HackNMod found some shady FTP site (with an HTML-based index) that features hundreds of scanned books in PDF form. You’ll find titles on hacking, programming and plenty of other subjects available for download. Get on it, though. Who knows how long this will stay up before O’Reilly or McGraw-Hill sends over a DMCA takedown notice.

Obviously, bookends are not required.

Muxtape Shut Down By RIAA

The RIAA keeps chugging along and putting people with good intentions out of business. The latest casualty is Muxtape, an online mixtape service that I used and really enjoyed. You uploaded 13 of your favorite tracks and that’d be about it. What do I think will happen now? Nothing. Muxtape is not/does not have the money to license all those tracks at the current royalty rates. It was a nice ride but until the recording industry “gets it,” I’m afraid we’re screwed.

Is Universal Buggin’?

Nothing is for free in this world. Unless of course you work for Universal and get free screenings. Then of course you try to sell DVDs of your shiesty recordings during the screenings. That’s the reason behind Universal Pictures canceling all non-executive employee screenings until further notice. According to Nikki Finke’s source:

“…some dumb fuck pirated Wanted at one of the lower lot venues.”

A Universal insider claims “some dumb fuck” shat in the apple pie for the rest of the employees and they’ve lost one of their few employee perks because of it. Though Universal itself says that the incident was not the reason that the employee screenings were shut down, it’s a little mysterious when a warning is shown during a screening of Hellboy 2. Verdict: Universal’s buggin’ out.

Pirate Drinking Belt = Every Frat Boy’s Dream

I haven’t checked my contract in awhile but I’m pretty sure I’m legally bound to cover anything pirate-related on Gearfuse. Up today, we have this kick ass Pirate Drinking Belt from some company no one has heard of. It comes with a striped belt, a shot glass with skull and crossbones, a bottle for liquor and a nice little skull buckle. Essentially, it’s built for a true drunk pirate. Unfortunately, there’s no price but if you buy in bulk, I’d imagine it’s no more than two or three dollars.

Nintendo Is Finally Sick Of Pirates

At long last, Nintendo has taken legal action towards companies developing and distributing DS pirating tools, such as the R5 or R4. Nintendo, backed by 54 game software companies including Capcom, SNK, Taito, Tecmo and Square Enix are filing a lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court against companies that profit from Nintendo’s losses.

Nintendo stated that this piracy, “is causing severe damage to our company and software makers, and this is something that we cannot possibly overlook.”

Overlooking it for the past four years was a bad idea, Nintendo. Maybe if you cranked out more drinking games, people wouldn’t find the need to steal your software. To be fair, it is easier to download games from home than to drive to your local retail store. Pirates are lazy.
