Iomo Split Camera

Filed under: Design, Hacks, Misc. Gadgets

Anyone with a Mac knows how much fun Photo Booth can be. Distort your face with your friend, get a good laugh and throw it up on Facebook. But what if you went on a vacation and wanted to bring the fun of Photo Booth with you without the need for a laptop?

Enter the Iomo Split Cam. This camera will let you block light from hitting the upper or lower portion of your photo. This means you can take a picture of your friend, block out their head and add in a statue’s head for good times. It’s a simple gimmick that will bring a lot of fun to your photos and for $20, you’d be insane to pass this camera up. Check out the Flickr gallery of Split Cam photos to get an idea of what this camera can do.

Hello Nurse! Art Or Photography? We Don’t Care

Take a look at the image above. Is it a photograph or is it a painting?

It’s actually an oil painting influenced by the aesthetic of black and white photography created by Adam Stennett. I’ve got no idea how he makes these images look so life-like, especially the water running down this lady’s crack. Hubba hubba. All I know is: I like.

Watchmen Closeups

Despite the ongoing legal battle between 20th Century FOX and Warner Bros. over Watchmen rights, Warner is still flinging press material left and right. Found in some Brazillian publication called SET, there’s four new close-ups of characters from the movie. Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, The Comedian and the chick who’s fucking Night Owl (sorry, I just finished reading it and already forget half the book) all make an appearance that really gets me hyped for the 2009 release of the movie.

Microsoft Brings Photosynth To Prime Time

Microsoft might make shitty operating systems but the company continues to innovate in other areas of the technology world. I haven’t heard of any Photosynth news for probably a year and now I wake up and Microsoft has pushed it out to the entire world. Photosynth works by taking batches of photographs and stitching them into a 3-D environment. You can then get a virtual tour of an area using photos. To be fair, you really have to watch the above video to get a feel for it.

Currently, Microsoft is offering a 20GB of storage for people to upload their photos and synths. The ability to add mobile phone photos has also been added as a new feature. Why are you still reading this? Give it a go!

Is Universal Buggin’?

Nothing is for free in this world. Unless of course you work for Universal and get free screenings. Then of course you try to sell DVDs of your shiesty recordings during the screenings. That’s the reason behind Universal Pictures canceling all non-executive employee screenings until further notice. According to Nikki Finke’s source:

“…some dumb fuck pirated Wanted at one of the lower lot venues.”

A Universal insider claims “some dumb fuck” shat in the apple pie for the rest of the employees and they’ve lost one of their few employee perks because of it. Though Universal itself says that the incident was not the reason that the employee screenings were shut down, it’s a little mysterious when a warning is shown during a screening of Hellboy 2. Verdict: Universal’s buggin’ out.

Sony Pictures To Simulcast Final ‘Rent’ Performance

rent1.jpg

I’d be lying if I said I never expressed interest in “Rent”, the rock musical that changed this and that and everything in between on Broadway. As you may or may not know, “Rent” is about to end its run on Broadway after 12 years. Sony Pictures is looking to cash in huge on the final performance, so it’s decided it will simulcast it to various movie theaters throughout the US.

Exact dates for the screenings haven’t been set yet, so you’ll just have to wait for now unless you feel like shelling out lots and lots of money for an actual ticket to the show. Could we a trend of other plays and performances being broadcast to movie theaters in the future? Absolutely. Next up is “Delerium” from Cirque du Soleil.

Leadertone’s GPS3000 looks for great success at CES

leadertone gps3000

The new GPS3000 by Leadertone is set to be shown off at CES, and boy does it have some showing off to do. This GPS navigator is actually more than just a GPS; it’s a media powerhouse. It’s capable of playing videos (WMV, ASF, and AVI), music, (WMA9, MP3, and WAV), and pictures (JPG, GIF, BMP and PNG). A very cool feature of the GPS3000 is that you can either hook it up to an onboard chip or independently with connection to a GPS receiver. Movies should be easy to view on the 3.5 inch LCD display with 65000 color support; this would suck to watch full length movies on, but funny Youtube clips in the car, now that would be fun. You’ll have to wait for pricing until CES, but from the sounds of the GPS3000 it looks like you’ll be paying a pretty penny for all the features included with this. It’s like you’re buying a Video iPod with GPS capabilities (Steve Jobs are you listening to me right now?) — Nick Rice
