When you’re under the influence of hallucinogens day in and day out, bright colors can make or break your evening. Pulling an all-nighter just wouldn’t be possible without PoiPlay.

It’s a traditional form of juggling originating in New Zealand that includes a rope or chain swung in a circular motion to display visual patterns. Thanks to the popularization of LEDs and glow sticks, PoiPlay has expanded visually and is reminiscent of the bike peripheral Monkeylectric. The rope has 28 LEDs that make up the visualization and utilizes three Atmel processors, a lithium ion battery, and a charger. The software controlling the PoiPlay was written in Perl and communicates via USB port under Cygwin. Be careful not to smack yourself in the face with it or you’ll be seeing colors that the PoiPlay could never display.

What better way to translate audio signals into light patterns than with this DIY project from Electronicpeasant.com. Throwing a few parties at your house while your rents are in Tahiti? Build a bunch of these, throw on some jam band music and take some hallucinogens to pay tribute to the late great Albert Hoffman. Perhaps some of your friends could bring over their DIY E-bolas to turn the party into a real rave that’ll have the police there (partying with you) in hours (they were busy).  With LEDs for lights, the color organ was designed for extended battery use and doesn’t burn too much power. After all, no one wants to change a battery whilst under the influence.

Guitar Hero got lame pretty damn fast and Dance Dance Revolution was never straight. Para Para Revolution however, isn’t nearly as bad. Instead of dancing on foot pads or playing a fake guitar, the player wears gloves with accelerometers that detect their hand movements.

The gloves focus on both hands’ waving motions. The player has to follow the rhythm and wave his hand in a certain direction to score points accordingly.  This makes tuning your bodily movements to more  harmonious patterns rhythms more fun and less gay than any other rhythm game on the market.
