What We Need is More Blind Artists

touch-color1

That’s what this world is lacking. Blind artists. No, I’m not talking people who would think are blind because of their awful color schemes. I’m talking straight up blind people. Don’t they have, like, a sixth (well, fifth for them) sense?

The Touch Color device allows blind people to create their own colorful works of art, using braille and tactile sensations to allow the user to feel the color, rather than see it. The temperature of the 24 colors included allow the user to feel the color’s intensity.

Dramatic Chipmunk Oil Painting Could Be the New Dogs Playing Poker

dramatic-chipmunk-oil-painting

Call it what you will. A chipmunk, a prairie dog, a walrus. The point is that the damn thing is dramatic. And the drama has now been captured in a hand-painted work of fine art. The 11″ x 13″ print immortalizes the most famous rodent on the web.

For around $39, you can add the Dramatic Chipmunk oil painting into your home’s cultural apex. And if you don’t have a cultural apex, it’s never too late to start one.

Jorge Colombo Sketches With The iPhone

isketch101_550jpg

No one can deny the technical prowess of Apple’s dream gadget. But did you know that the iPhone can be used as a legitimate painting tool? Such is the case with artist Jorge Colombo. Check out these realistic (to an extent) sketches of New York City that he drew using the Brushes application on his iPhone. Grand Central? Check. New York pizza shop? Check. Iconic bridge? Check, check and check.

Hit the jump to see more of Jorge’s work. How he draws this stuff with his fingers and an iPhone is beyond me.

Taste The Rainbow: Mac Mini

mac_mini_colorsjpg

The Mac Mini is a fantastic computer for day-to-day use or as a media center box for your TV. Problem is, that anodized aluminum finish can look dull sitting next to all your other gadgets surrounding your television. Spice it up a little with a paint job from Computer Choppers. For a whopping $200, they’ll gladly dye your Mac Mini in one of many color options the company offers. While it’s an expensive mod, costing a third of the computer’s original purchase price, the ability the customize your Mac to your style is an attractive offer to some. I’m so getting the pink one when I get my tax return back.

Legend of Zelda Nail Design

ocarina_of_time_nails_by_happylod3

Anyone can waltz down to the local strip mall, pay $20 and get a set of fake, ugly acrylic nails slapped on their hands. But if you have class and skill, the right thing to do would be to paint on your own design. Take for instance Happylod3’s Legend of Zelda inspired fingernails. She painted the Triforce, the ocarina, the Master Sword, the symbol of the Sheikah and of course, a rupee. I think the results look great and am surprised at the amount of detail in such a little drawing.

Custom Painted Retro Systems

It can be quite difficult to find classic gaming consoles and games that predate the original Xbox. After all, the Nintendo Gamecube could be considered retro by today’s standards. Scratch that. The Gamecube was retro the moment it came out.

If you’re in the market for some quality retro gaming, what better way to go than a painted SNES. The one shown above pays homage to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. For 149.99 this custom painted Super Nintendo could be yours. Not a Zelda fan? You can get a Ghouls N Ghosts or Secret Of Mana painted Super Nintendos for the same price. Want to go even more retro? Original custom painted Nintendo Entertainment Systems are also available. It’s no Metroid Arcade, but it’s almost as cool.

Straight Up Chess Boards

Straight Up Chess makes gaming and chess boards. Nothing new there, aside from the fact that these games are designed to be played on a vertical surface. Mount the board to your wall and casually play a game with your roommate. You have to take a piss, you make a move. Cooking dinner, make a move. Grabbing a condom from the sofa cushion, make a move. It’s quite elementary, my friends.

DIY Glass Etching

Glass can be arranged in many ways and while it can look beautiful on its own, adding etchings or coloring can really bring a unique feel to your home. Instead of spending a small fortune on having glass etched professionally or buying expensive tools, you can easily create your own designs with some painter’s tape and other tools.

If you’re aiming to use this procedure on your door, windows or any glass that lets in natural light, keep in mind that the process requires painting the glass black or another dark color to emphasize your designs. I’d recommend making a custom coffee table, bathroom window or art piece if you’re going to try it out.

Tooth Tattoos Make For A Humorous Write-up

The year is 2011. Rap music has evolved to the point where bling and grillz are no longer cool. The new fad is tattoos. Rappers everywhere from all crews are swarming dentist offices trying to get tooth tattoos. What are tooth tattoos? I’m glad you asked.

Back in the year 2008, the Heward Dental Lab in Salt Lake City decided to start offering custom hand-painted crowns. That’s right. If you were hoping to get an image of Andy Warhold silk-screened onto a tooth, no dice. Costing between $75 and $500, rappers of all wealth flocked to Salt Lake City to get images of George Washington and Elvis attached on their teeth. Thus, the hit single of 2009 was born: “Saltin’” by Chamillionaire.

The Art Of Technology: No, this is not a photograph

ticapainting_sm.jpg

Check out the above image and tell me if you can tell the difference between the lovely bride and a real photo of a lovely bride. This is not a real photo. The above painting was made using nothing more than an artistic eye for detail and a computer. And we thought the WoW Night Elf rendering was amazing!
Check out the site for an in-depth look at the process and the amount of detail put into the painting. The whole thing took about 70 hours. — Andrew Dobrow
