ps3s_1

The PS3 Slim was already beginning to feel a little chubby. Time takes a a toll on the body. Thankfully, we have Ben Heck to make everything more portable. His new PS3 Slim Laptop takes the improved hardware of the Slim and makes it even more mobile with his notebook-inspired mod.

Pet / Laptop Case Might Cook Your Dog Extra Crispy Style

pet-laptop-case

The novelty of having a PetEgo Pet / Laptop Backpack hybrid might wear off soon after you realize your beloved pooch has been charred by your recently charged notebook. The Asians love it, but for Westerners? Not so much.

But as long as their is a generous amount of padding between the two, this is actually a really neat idea. I’m kind of sick of carrying around my dog in a purse anyway. You can only look so manly walking around with a Yorkie Poo in a purse. Even if you ARE wearing a cowboy hat.

Dell 10v Mini Notebook Running Android

Dell is diving even deeper into the netbook market. In this video, a Dell engineer shows off the new 10v laptop running Ubuntu and the “Cupcake” version of Google’s Android OS. He calls it “snappy” and makes sure to note that Dell is not offering this as an option on any of its computers. However, it’s very possible to port it over to your 10v, so if Google’s mobile OS tickles your fancy, you better start coding.

Moleskine Notebook Hard Drive Mod

moleskinehd_upsize

Here’s a nice little mod to start off your snowy morning. Found in the MAKE Flickr pool, Flickr user Shoxcorp snuck a full 3.5-inch hard drive inside a fine-looking moleskine notebook. Who would ever think that your private data is inside a journal? Notebooks? Private? You be the judge.

Lock ‘Em Out With Text Messaging

If someone ever stole my car, I’d wish for a feature that would allow me to cause my car to blow up via text message. That’s kind of the idea behind Lenovo’s latest notebook feature: Lenovo Constant Secure Remote Disable Feature.

Important data on your computer that you can’t have falling into the wrong hands? A porn library you can’t possibly have your wife stumbling upon? This new service will prevent any such scenarios by allowing the laptop’s owner to shut the computer down over a WWAN connection and lock it. All it takes is a simple text message from a cell phone to cripple your notebook’s capabilities. That will teach them to mess with your stuff! Look for this new feature around Q1 2009 on Lenovo notebooks at no additional charge.

Laptop That’s So Small It’s Practically Useless

It’s official – laptops can’t get any smaller. If they did, reading and typing on them would be an impossible task. I thought the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 was small, but the IMOVIO iKIT takes the cake. The cupcake, that is.

This thing is unnecessarily too small. It’s dimensions are 95 x 65 x 15.5 mm and it weighs almost half the weight of a Nintendo DS Lite and 20g less than an iPhone, so it’s pretty damn tiny. It also manages to pack a full QWERTY keyboard and a 2.8″ QVGA screen on this thing. For $170, you’re not getting much of a computer. It runs on a Marvell PXA270 312MHz CPU, uses a trimmed-down Linux OS and has 64MB of RAM, so don’t expect a powerhouse in the palm of your hand. For some reason this little thing even has Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11b/g WiFi and can amazingly sustain enough juice to keep it going for three hours. Seriously, do laptops need to be this small?

New Sony VAIOs Make My Mouth Water

Sony has launched two new laptops that are so technologically advanced that even the tech-savvy Jerry Seinfeld has to get his hands on one. The VAIO VGN-CS180J/R and VGN-NR485E/L are their names and it just makes me wonder why computers can’t be named in the same manner that cars are. The Sony VAIO Panther would be much easier to bring up in a conversation than the mindfuck of a name that is the VGN-CS180J/R.

The one pictured above is the NS series. It’s packing a 2.0 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, a 15.4″ display, 200GB hard drive and 4GB of memory all for around $600. Not bad.  There is also the CS series, where smaller means pricier seems to be the motto. The specs are about the same but this display is only 14.1″ and the price starts at around $920. Both laptops have an add-on feature for a Blu-ray, which increases the price to a little above a grand.  Also, no Sony VAIO would be complete without a slew of colors to choose from, just remember to choose based upon your gender and not your sexual orientation.  I don’t care what anyone says, pink is not the new black. Purple is.

Commodore Comeback

In the wake of the Commodore 64 LAN party comes a new breed of laptop. Commodore is pulling a Steve Jobs, as in: you heard it was dead, but it was all lies. It’s making a comeback with a netbook, go figure, it’s the UMMD 8010/F. Compared to the Commodore 64, it’s loaded. The UMMD 8010/F has a 10″ screen and comes with a processing power of 1.6GHZ, 80GB of hard drive space and 1GB of RAM.

It’s half the price of the Dell E Mini Notebook, with half the RAM. At $600 dollars, it comes packed with a 1.3-megapixel camera and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi capability. But you know the only reason you’d buy it is because it says “Commodore” right below the monitor.

Could Microsoft’s Blue Track Mouse Be The End Of Laser?

Microsoft claims that come September 9th, you can kiss laser goodbye. Everyone was quite confused as to what Microsoft meant, that is until this picture of the mystery product that would put laser in its place showed up on Amazon’s Germany site.

It’s called the Blue Track and it allegedly uses a blue LED teamed up with a wide-angle lens for better tracking on more surfaces than laser and optical are capable of. Hey, I’m all for improved tracking and getting rid of mouse pads, but why blue?. With the wireless adapter and small size, could this be a more ideal mouse for the traveling laptop user than Microsoft’s Arc? With better tracking, definitely, but the price has yet to come into play.
