Let’s Tap: The Next Brilliant Idea From Nintendo

Everyone has been holding their breath for the next eye-popping accessory to hit the Nintendo Wii. I just can’t get enough of great products like the Wii MotionPlus and Wii Sqweeze. Those are two accessories you simply can’t miss out on.

If you’re a Nintendo fanboy, then you’ll be excited to hear the news of Nintendo’s latest brilliant idea. It’s called “Let’s Tap,” and it adds a whole new element of gameplay to the Wii that you never thought imaginable: tapping. That’s right, tapping. An activity once used for passing time when you’re waiting around for the bus has now been given new life, thanks to the Nintendo Wii. Just set your Wiimote on top of its flat surface and begin tapping away. That’s all we know for now, but boy are we excited!

Nintendo DSi Officially Announced

After Nintendo’s dodgy business of denying the speculation of its new handheld’s existence, the company cracked, officially announcing the DSi. Could it be trying any harder to be an iPhone? Nintendo cut the GBA slot from its Lite model, meaning no more backwards compatibly for you Pokemon-lovers. To make up for this loss, the screens are 17 percent larger and the whole unit is 2.6mm thinner than the DS Lite. As speculated, it will come packed with a VGA camera and it’s got music playback. What wasn’t mentioned was the on-board memory, built-in Web browser and SD slots enabling the transfer of images to the Wii Photo Channel.

The DSi is starting to sound more and more like an Apple product. Nintendo will even be launching a DSi store that’ll release downloadable content via WiFi. Look for Nintendo’s new handheld November 1st if you’re in Japan and have $180 bucks on you. If you’re in America, you’ll just have to wait.

Speculated Nintendo DS Tries To Be An iPhone

Over the weekend, Kotaku posted a report from Nikkei Net suspecting Nintendo of planning to release its next incarnation of the Nintendo DS. There is speculation that the new DS will include a built-in camera and music playback as well as improved wireless functions. According to Nikkei Net, the new version is expected to be priced below $190 dollars.

As of now, Nintendo has yet to confirm anything and until an official announcement is made from the company itself, I won’t believe a word from anyone. However, the built-in camera sounds like a Nintendo idea. This will give them a chance to shit out the next line of Wario games that revolves around taking pictures. Oooh, sounds fun!

The Wiimote Unleashed

For every Wii game released there exists a useless peripheral for the Wiimote. Wii Sports received those lame themed extensions for the controller just so that when you’re flailing your arms around like an idiot, you’ve got a greater chance of hitting someone.

The release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is no exception to this fact. For $20 bucks, you can equip two Wiimotes with lightsaber extensions to bring a whole new feel of immersion to your game. Or, you could go outside and play pretend - it’s basically the same thing.

Mega Man 9: Call It A Comeback

You’d best get to your local convenience store and stock up on some Mega Man energy drinks because Mega Man 9 is coming - again. Knowing Capcom, it’ll probably come ten more times because Capcom just can’t quit anything.

Mega Man 9 has been given a release date of September 24th for the WiiWare in Japan. No word on an American release date so far but we’ll keep our eyes peeled. The game is expected to launch on the PSN and Xbox Live as well, but no news or dates have been announced. One can dream!

Why Do Wii Fans Enjoy The Wii So Much?

What really makes the Wii so popular? Is it the robust library of games? Can’t be. Is it the faulty control mechanism? Anything is possible. What about the fact that Nintendo has the cheapest system on the market but you’ve got to buy twice as many controllers at marked up prices just so you can play with friends? Nah, that’s not why people like it.

Oh, this video explains it all! It’s the reason why people love the Nintendo Wii so much.  In this video found on YouTube, we see the stereotypical Wii user in action playing one of the first-person shooters featured on the Wii that more than likely has no blood in it. Watch as his excitement and pleasure become fulfilled by his best friend and companion who gets stirred up over the Wii, thus proving the Wii is as exciting as getting fucked by a dog.

Homebrew Goodness Reminds Me Of Old Sierra Game

If you’re one of many Wii owners that are tired of using it at as a DVD player or a dry-erase board, then you’ll be happy to know that the homebrew scene is still going strong with innovative concepts that are pushing the capabilities of the Wii more than Nintendo ever attempted to do. Wii Physics is one of the newer homebrew apps that almost makes the Wii seem enjoyable to play. Using your trusty Wiimote you can place objects on a stage and adjust their size and rotation.

Sounds boring, huh? I’m not finished, asshole. Pulleys, ropes, gears and joints can be used to connect objects together and when all is said and done, you press the play button. That’s when the magic begins and The Incredible Machine turns on, causing the objects to fall and interact with each other. It’s free to download and the source is also accessible in case you want to expand upon it.

DIY: Your Own Personlized Wii Sensor Bar

Filed under: DIYs, Gaming, Hacks, Peripherals

That Nintendo Wii sensor bar isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be. Alan Parekh explains it’s simplicity by exposing it’s composition of just a few IR LEDs. Then, he manages to turn an ordinary TV remote control into a working Wii sensor bar. All it requires is a few holes drilled in that old remote of yours. And if it turns out that the remote has some extra IR LEDs inside of it, then you’ve just saved yourself from making a trip to the store to get more.

For the finale, you just disconnect the existing battery connection to the remote control circuit and connect it to the LEDs you just mounted in the drilled holes. With that, you’ll have the most unique sensor bar around town, but you won’t be able to switch the TV to input.
