iPhone Extortion Plot Takes Advantage of Jailbreaking

iphones-get-jailbreak-security-warning-0

So you think you’re real smooth jailbreaking your iPhone, huh? Really pulled the wool over the eyes of Apple, you did. Dutch jailbreakers beware. A hacker from the Netherlands was recently able to conive a series of Dutch iPhone users into using his software to “jailbreak” their device. When the supposed jailbreak is complete and the phone is rebooted, users receive this message: “Important Warning: You iPhone’s been hacked because it’s really insecure! Please visit doiop.com/iHacked and secure your iPhone right now! Right now, I can access all your files. This message won’t disappear until your iPhone’s secure.” Riiiiiiight. D’oh!

Users are asked to deposit $5 into a PayPal account in return for a promised solution for unhacking the device, most likely just a factory reset of the phone. This is a warning to all you jailbreakers out there. Shit can happen. Be safe. The Force is with you.

The Last HOPE: Methods of Copying High Security Keys

The Netherlands-based locksporting group Toool held a panel at HOPE discussing new and advanced opening techniques for high security locks. We sat in on this two hour discussion with Barry Wels and Han Fey commenting on some unorthodox approaches to key copying.

The speakers mentioned how easy it is to copy even the most exclusive of key profiles, which in actuality, only block hardware store copying methods. Noting the classic clay mold approaches to key copying, the speakers quickly alluded to the simplicity of imprinting the key’s marks on your own arm as a form of copying. Go ahead and press your house key into your forearm, the imprint stays there longer than you’d think.

They even challenged attendees to bring their own locks or “impossible to copy” keys, so they can take a crack at it. What daring hackers.

Rollercoaster For Bikes, Sign Waver Prior To Riding

Think you’re hardcore? Think again.  Swedish artist and designer Anders Jakobsen aka Lagombra has created a bicycle rollercoaster for the MU Art Foundation in Eindhoven. Made up of raw wood and scaffolding the coaster is reminiscent of a series of toppled dominoes. The tracks highest peak nearly hits two meters and dares riders to risk their necks for nothing more than a head rush.

According to the MU’s director, only one cyclist was skilled enough to be able to complete a circuit.  Everyone else who has daringly attempted to ride the coaster did nothing more than introduce their face to the dirt.

A Bike Stand That Pumps You Up

bikestand_pump.jpg

How about a little product integration to light up your day? Spotted over in the drug-lovin’ Netherlands, this stainless steel bike stand integrates an air pump right into the mix, hopefully causing some interaction between neighbors as they pump up the wheels to their hot rods.

Eight of these bad boys will be installed around Ypenburg, a newly built town. Apparently marijuana use not only affects hunger, but motivation to get your on air pump as well. — Andrew Dobrow

Dandelight 9V Battery Powered Ambiance

top.jpg

Dandelight is a design piece which is made with LEDs, real Dandelion seeds, and a 9V battery. Each piece is made by the designers themselves, for a totally custom feel to this cool looking light. Even if some people look at Dandelions as weeds, and not the mind intoxicating kind, they make pretty cool light effects. In all seriousness, the Dandelight is much cooler looking then the 9v powered Arco Lamp.
Dandelight, designed by Designdrift of the Netherlands, was recently added to the Designboom web shop, so you can order your own for $99. Not too shabby for a custom made product, in a world of mechanistic production. — Andrew Dobrow
