Meet the 416 MP digital camera

416mp1

The previously unknown to us company, BetterLight, has created a new monster in the digital photography world. A 416 MP camera. There’s no typo there. Allow us to write it out phonetically to be sure. Four-hundred and sixteen megapixels! For our needs this is about 410 megapixels too many. But for companies who create wall sized prints for ads, the incredible detail could carry a new era in realistic advertising.

Each file this camera snaps is about 794 MB, which of course means buying a new hard drive might be in order. The camera is made for art reproduction companies as well as archival groups. It will put a $22,995 hole in your pocket, which is a great value considering a similar price was thrown on 20 MPs when they were first released for sale. All we can say is, “Wow, that’s a shitload of pixels.” — Andrew Dobrow

General Electric announced its new venture into the digital camera market through a fleet of releases through General Imaging, a small manufacturer created by the former president of Olympus. GE will be producing a series of branded cameras, all with red eye removal and image stabilization, including a high end model called X-1 which will feature an 8 MP sensor, 12x optical zoom, and a 2.5in LCD screen.

Along with the X-1 release will be the slick G-series (G-1, pictured above) which will feature a more sleek, compact design for us photo hobbyists and gadget nuts. The G-1 will feature a 7 MP sensor, 3x optical zoom, with a small design which measures 3.5 inches wide by 2.5 inches high. Also available will be a mid-range E-series, which will feature from 8 to 12 MP, and 4X to 5X zoom. Prices and availability are yet to be revealed, but knowing GE, it will be mass produced. — Andrew Dobrow

Casio announces 10.1MP Exilim EX-Z1050 digital camera

casio exilim ex-z1050

Casio has announced its’ newest addition to the Exilim family of high pixel point-and-shoot digital cameras with the EX-Z1050. This 10.1MP has a few distinguishing differences between itself and the previous EX-Z1000 model.

The first thing you might notice about the Z1050 is the smaller size. It’s a scant .95″ thick, with a width of 3.85″ and a length of 2.25″. For a camera with such a high MP count, that is a impressively small size.

Another addition to the new Exilim is the use of Exilim Engine 2.0 processing which allows the camera to shoot 7 frames per second. A 2.6″ LCD display rounds it all off.

Not only are the tech specs advanced, but the new model has a selection of four skin colors to choose from. Outfit your camera in blue, pink, black, or silver. Suggested retail price is only $299.99, which seems very reasonable for a 10.1MP pointer. — Andrew Dobrow
