Dude Makes Full Size Star Wars Landspeeder In His Garage

Daniel Deutsch made a lifesize working replica of the Star Wars landspeeder. Deutsch’s masterpiece is 1:1 scale and was built with “a custom aluminum chassis, fiberglass body, and an electric drive system that hits lightspeed at 25 mph.” It is driveable, but there’s no word on whether or not this landspeeder is street legal. Even if it’s only able to make trips around the driveway, it’s still way more useful than that DIY Jabba the Hutt we wrote about a few months back. Read more to see photos of the landspeeder under construction and posing with a puppy.

Rent The Big Screen (Not The Concession Stand)

Here’s some good news for those who live in Canada: you no longer have to settle for playing your Xbox 360 games on that 20 inch TV of yours. Well, you don’t have to settle for it if you’ve got the cash and the friends willing to accompany you as you rent out a movie theater. Playing the upcoming Fallout 3 on the big screen would be more enjoyable than any computer animated Star Wars sacrilege or Will Farrell comedy.

As of last Friday, Cineplex Entertainment of Canada started renting out screen time for solely playing Xbox 360. Wait, what about the PS3 or Wii? Oh right…no one plays those systems. For just $179 dollars and tax you’ll gain access to an entire theater for you and 11 friends for a two hour session. Just in case you left your copy of Bioshock at home, they’ll also provide you with access to their own library of games. The theaters rent time is mostly scheduled for the morning, which brings anywhere from 12 to 24 hours of downtime to the theater. But they don’t mind, they’re making more dough doing this than they ever did in the movie business. Welcome to the new-age of arcades, I can’t wait to see the subliminal advertising.

Aliens Chess Set

I fucking love Aliens. From the hotness of Sigourney Weaver to the antics of Bill Paxton, the movie will always hold a special place in my heart, save for the shitty video games. Finally, after years of cranking out the aforementioned shitty video games, Aliens comes to your tabletop with this special chess set. You’ll receive this intricate board, face huggers as pawns, the Alien Queen, Ripley in the cargo loader and such.

I have no idea where you can buy it or how much it costs (or if some fanboy made it) but it’s quite the work of art, isn’t it?

Yup. You read correctly. You, sirs, are staring at a brand-spankin’ new Xbox 360 from Taiwan. The catch? It’s an extremely limited edition The Dark Knight Xbox 360. Kind of like getting a BJ from Megan Fox while Michael Jordan high fives you. Good luck getting your own. You may very well end up making your own.

Tokyo’s Ultra-Luxe Movie Theater Has $278,000 Seats

Earlier this morning, the most luxurious movie theater ever had it’s grand opening in Tokyo Japan. Shinjuku Piccadilly is a cinema complex featuring a sleek “brilliant white” design and the world’s largest LCD monitor, a 108 inch behemoth from Sharp that’s the largest they can make with a single piece of 8th-generation glass substrate. Picture quality on this thing must be mind-blowing compared to a standard old school projector. God damn, those movie industry folks in Tokyo sure know how to put on an impressive show.

Shinjuku Piccadilly boasts private screening rooms that are available for rent. It costs a 30,000 yen (around $278) to watch a flick in one of these luxury boxes. You can rent one for a whole year for 30 million yen ($278,200). Shinjuku’s “platinum” VIP screening rooms come equipped with customized Italian leather sofas, surround sound systems, and champagne. Good luck trying to impress the ladies with your puny $30,000 DIY home-entertainment system now.

Nike’s Back To The Future Basketball Shoe

I don’t know about you, but I happen to think the Back To The Future trilogy is one of the greatest achievements of modern cinema. The only thing I didn’t like about it is how the whole world is supposed to end if Michael J. Fox meets Past or Future Michael J. Fox, but when Jennifer meets Future Jennifer nothing really happens. That part sucked.

Anyway, remember in Back To The Future 2 when Michael J. Fox is in the year 2015 and he has the really kickass sneakers that tie themselves? Of course you do. They were really kickass. Turns out, you’re not the only one who loved those shoes. Fans of the kicks put a petition online in order to start “a grassroots movement to get Nike to make available to consumers the futuristic-looking sneakers seen in the 1989 movie Back to the Future Part 2.” Back To The Future fans dubbed the shoes the “McFly 2015″ after the the name of Fox’s character Marty McFly. Hip Hop star Kanye West even got in on the action by having Takashi Murakami draw a bear wearing the sneakers on the cover of his album Graduation. This month, Nike finally released the Air McFlys– sort of.

DIY: Iron Man Arc Reactor

The Iron Man movie was awesome and we’ve all seen the crazy fanboys dressing up in cosplay costumes. The next take on the DIY arc reactor is very Robert Downey Jr and we think that’s a good thing (these days). Remember the terrible chest piece Tony Stark had to create to keep him self alive? Making your own isn’t too tough either; you just need to stand close to some explosive projectile.

Once it pierces your chest, the hard part is over. Gathering materials and soldering will be the least of your worries. Unfortunately, you can’t shoot impulse blasts from your chest with this arc reactor but at least you won’t have to settle for shitty life support.

Sony Pictures To Simulcast Final ‘Rent’ Performance

rent1.jpg

I’d be lying if I said I never expressed interest in “Rent”, the rock musical that changed this and that and everything in between on Broadway. As you may or may not know, “Rent” is about to end its run on Broadway after 12 years. Sony Pictures is looking to cash in huge on the final performance, so it’s decided it will simulcast it to various movie theaters throughout the US.

Exact dates for the screenings haven’t been set yet, so you’ll just have to wait for now unless you feel like shelling out lots and lots of money for an actual ticket to the show. Could we a trend of other plays and performances being broadcast to movie theaters in the future? Absolutely. Next up is “Delerium” from Cirque du Soleil.

Jessica Rabbit “Untooned” Video Surfaces

Filed under: Design, Internet, Software, Videos

Perhaps you popped a hard one last week browsing the Internet. Maybe it was because you’re into leather, maybe you saw Tera Patrick blowing Peter North or perhaps you were one of the many geeks who saw a Photoshopped picture of Jessica Rabbit turned into a human.

Now, thanks to the wonder of video capture, you can see how the man behind the transformation put her together. It’s only the first hour of work crammed into a ten minute video but it’s well worth the watch. Turns out her face was reconstructed from part Angelina Jolie, part Allison Hannigan and Andrew’s mustache. Oh my…
