Mr. Hauf, you have just propelled yourself into one of the top spots for best iPhone dock mod. I don’t know if this is cooler than the Dinosaur Dock, because come on, it’s a fricken’ dinosaur, but it’s pretty damn close.

iPhone Dinosaur Dock

Thankfully, the maker of this project chose a herbivore to work with, rather than say a Raptor or T-Rex. No missing fingers for us. The iPhone Dinosaur Dock is the result of the stripping of a Brachiosaurus toy, replacing its innards with a bunch of tasty gadgetry.

The iPhone Dinosaur Dock is most comfortable in its natural habitat, peering through blades of grass and being photographed by fat nerds, though as you can see after the jump, he looks fine in an office setting as well.

Coconut Headphone Mod

coconut_headphones

If I was stuck on a deserted island with nothing but a pair of headphones and my iPod, I would so mod my headphones to better resemble my current habitat. In fact, this awesome headphone mod could be used as awesomely musical camouflage from the island’s natives.

It’s really a win-win. Because as you clean out the coconut shell, you get to eat the sweet meat inside. Om nom.

Coffee Grinding Power Drill Emasculates Your Coffee Beans

powerdrillcoffeegrinder

Nothing shows your coffee beans who’s boss quite like a power drill made to grind them into oblivion. This modded power tool was created using the burr of a peppermill.

I happen to love a little metallic zest in my brew.

Honoring Billy Mays the Only Way We Know How… A Keyboard Mod

billy-mays-tribute

As geeks, we have slightly skewed and sometimes inappropriate ways of handling stress. Most of the time we like to mix in some humor with our mourning. It helps to lighten the mood.

This keyboard mod memorial renames the “Caps Lock” key the “Billy Mays” key. Your loud, boisterous voice will forever live on in our hearts and keyboards, Billy.

Broom Surge Protector Powers Your Electronics with a Clean Sweep

broommulti

Us gearheads are admittedly not the best housekeepers in the universe (at least this universe). Our brain is filled with so many other thoughts and ideas, how can we possible make space to remember our daily chores? And don’t give me that chore chart crap. That shit is for the birds.

The Brook Surge Protector not only powers four different gadgets, but offers a healthy reminder that your filth isn’t cleaning itself. The power switch for the multitap itself sits illuminated near the top of the broom’s handle.

Virtual On Reborn On Xbox 360

voonsticksjpg

Have you ever played the Dreamcast/Arcade classic Virtual On? It’s one of those wacky robot games that has a huge cult following. The Dreamcast version came with these twin arcade sticks you’d use to play the game with. Since then, nothing has come close to the same gaming experience – until now. Some Japanese dude took two candy tubes, wired out his 360 buttons and essentially, owned it. Nice work.

Ben Heck’s C64 Laptop

200904070658jpg

Dream for days of true retro-gaming on the go? Ben Heck has you covered. He’s put his master modder skills to good use this time around, creating a portable Commodore 64 laptop. Says Heck:

This project somehow has the distinction of being both the longest and fastest portable electronics project I have ever done. I originally started making a C64 laptop in the fall of 2006, and kept pecking away at it every so often. Finally, a few weeks ago, I said “screw it” and started over.

I redid everything in a week and a half – the shortest project ever. (The previous record hold was the Wii portable at 2 weeks) The goal this time was to make something that looked exactly like a computer from the early 80’s, yet in a new form. Including the color beige and texture

Full keyboard, SD slot for loading up programs and a display that rings true to the original. Nice work. Hit the link to see how Ben did it and plenty o’ pictures.
