An MP3 Player That Goes Straight Into Your Ear

thanko-mp3-player-2_6jcXY_54

Thanko might not be known for their practicality, but I think they might be on to something for once. Their Micro Sports MP3 Player looks more like a Bluetooth headset. The device fits right into your ear with a built-in earbud. It’s that tiny.

Available in 2GB and 4GB flavors, the Micro Sports MP3 Player looks a little chintzy, but seems to be even tinier than Apple’s iPod Shuffle.

SwissMiniGun: Smallest Manufactured Pistol Ever

swissminigun

Measuring only 5.5cm long, the SwissMiniGun claims to be the smallest pistol manufactured today. The gun is so tiny that it requires specialty 2.34mm caliber bullets. And I have no idea where you’d even find a holster.

At $6,000, this pistol probably isn’t for the amateur gun owner, but why would the average person need this thing anyway? Also, this gun can’t be imported in the U.S., but is permitted in Canada. So, if your American heart is that set on the SwissMini, you might need to pack up and move.

Transformer Laptop USB Hub

tranformer-laptop-usb-hub-500x272

The laptop hub itself is enough to generate an epic “Yo Dawg” meme which would make Xzibit cry in frustration. But add in transformer functionality and you have some sort of weird meta-paradox which isn’t even worth the effort to meme-ificate.

This robotic transformer hub folds into the shape of a mini-laptop with four additional USB ports. Now all we need is four even smaller laptop hubs to hook into this transformer hub. Now that would be an epic “Sup Dawg.”

“Yo dawg I heard you like mini laptop transformer hubs so we put mini laptop transformer hubs in yo mini laptop transformer hub so you can transfer and transform while you transfer and transform.” Win.

Dell 10v Mini Notebook Running Android

Dell is diving even deeper into the netbook market. In this video, a Dell engineer shows off the new 10v laptop running Ubuntu and the “Cupcake” version of Google’s Android OS. He calls it “snappy” and makes sure to note that Dell is not offering this as an option on any of its computers. However, it’s very possible to port it over to your 10v, so if Google’s mobile OS tickles your fancy, you better start coding.

Sound of Silence: Apple Announces Updates

091213-macmini_425

Steve Jobs is off on some island banging chicks and sipping margaritas. Meanwhile, COO Tim Cook announced lackluster updates for iMacs and Mac Minis today. The 24-inch iMac has new NVIDIA graphics, twice the memory and twice the storage and still only costs $1499. The Mac Mini also got an upgrade, scoring 5 USB ports, Firewire 800 and a variety of options. It’s also being called the world’s most energy efficient desktop.

Finally, there is your mom. Only kidding. Apple also upgraded the Time Capsule (remember that thing?) and the Airport Extreme Base Station. They both now offer “simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual-band networking “for optimal performance, range and compatibility.” Apparently, you can also set up a second Intranet for family and friends to use sans password. Very neat idea. Hit the link for the official press release.

Mini Media Centre Case Design Of The 1950s

The 1950s saw the birth of many things we still detest to this day, like beatniks and Communist Cuba. While this Mini Media Centre designed by British design student Thomas Thomassen looks like the tail light of a ‘57 Chevy. Except this thing was actually designed in 2006.

It reminds me of the Happy Days, when my buddy Fonz would water ski in tightie whities as he stunt jumped over sharks. Those were the days. The Happy Days.

No Opera For The iPhone

I’m not talking about Phantom here, I’m talking about the web browser, Opera. Apple has beef with the competition and in turn has decided to keep Opera off the App Store. Says ZDNet:

Mr. von Tetzchner said that Opera’s engineers have developed a version of Opera Mini that can run on an Apple iPhone, but Apple won’t let the company release it because it competes with Apple’s own Safari browser.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Apple is trying to gain market share with it’s web browser Safari. Hopefully we’ll see some alternatives in the future, but for now, you’re shit out of luck.

Fake MacBook Mini Is Really An MSI Wind Netbook

Netbooks are all the craze these days. Everyone is wondering if Apple is going to hop on the netbook bandwagon and produce a mini MacBook. As of now, no word from Apple regarding that. On the other hand, a member of a German MSI Wind forum just couldn’t wait on Apple. He used a Dremel and six white LCD lights to turn his MSI Wind netbook into a Mac look-a-like.

He even put together a mock commercial of his MacBook mini. You’d think it was an actual Apple product.

DIY: Mini Segway

Think you can ride a Segway? Sure, it might look easy – until you fall. For those not skilled in the ways of a normal-sized Segway, perhaps a mini Segway would be more to your liking. This DIY project found on the Arduino.cc forums was posted by user Arduino.poet whose created this mini-Segway which has no practical purpose but does show his passion for hardware and the Arduino. Why else would he be the self-proclaimed Arduino poet?

Using some LEGO pieces and an Ardunio, this Segway is capable of self-balanced movement at a speed that could be deemed too fast. Just kidding, this thing is slow as molasses. Arduino.poet also uploaded his library to Sourceforge for all to use and is willing to answer any questions anyone has on the project over at the Arduino.cc forums.  My question: where’s the cup holder?
