Modder Sam Thornley yearned for portable classics like the Atari Flashback, so he made his own. Using a Jakks Pacific plug-and-play Namco mini arcade’s guts and some hardware know-how, Sam melded the circuit board with a tiny 2.5-inch LCD display and powered the whole thing with a set of 4 rechargeable AA batteries. It includes Pac-Man, Galaxian, Rally-X, Bosconian and even Dig Dug. Yes, even Dig Dug, my deity.

Remember that R/C Tortoise and the Swashbot, from the folks at Crabfu? They’re still hard at it, coming up with some awesome new robots. The latest on the line is the Putter Bot, a remote-controlled golfing robot. Actually, make that putting robot as I doubt this little guy is capable of a long drive without a driver. Getting through the rough wouldn’t be too hard though, with the two servos this thing has for powering the tracks.

In any case, this bot is sticking to mini-putt, which we all know is more fun than regular golf anyways. No business deals to be made, just all fun and games. That is, until someone loses an eye or this robot loses its light.

We’ve all seen Dell’s E mini notebook that’s piss small with an 8.9-inch screen but details haven’t emerged aside from specs - until today. Rumor has it that the Dell E is going to ship sometime in August for - wait for it - an astonishing $299. At that price, you’d expect a terrible system but you’ll find decent specs like a 1.8GHz Atom CPU, Linux. On the downside? 4GB of storage, only 512MB of RAM and Linux.

If the specs don’t suit you, fear not: Dell is coming out with a few models, including a premium model that supposedly has a built-in webcam, 1GB of RAM and other features. Either way, if Dell debuts a $299 sub-notebook next month, don’t expect to find them in stock after launch day.

So far, it’s been a hot summer and it isn’t getting much cooler. Do yourself a favor: order some takeout (preferably Chinese food) and turn the carton into a mini-desktop air conditioner. Messing with LEGOs is good times, even if you’re 53. That’s why some geek in Germany turned a few 2×2 transparent bricks (of a variety of colors) into high speed Bluetooth adapters. On sale in limited quantity, these bricks are priced at about $50 before shipping and handling. They’ll give you that “I’m an 8-year-old!” look and at the same time, sync your expensive top-of-the-line wireless gadgets together. While there are better ways to call attention to yourself, the LEGO Bluetooth Mini Dongle is ultimately more useful than the alternatives.

This is one tiny-ass car. It truly puts cars like the MINI and SmartCar to shame in terms of size and fuel economy. There isn’t much info on the M-112, though one can easily see it’s a small one-seater that resembles a futuristic go-kart. Don’t hold your breath if you’re thinking of getting one, as it was specially designed for the Shell Eco Marathon race in France.
