Public Service Announcement On The Go

You don’t need a DJ Mobile to be able to make public announcements over a loud speaker. Take a look at this briefcase.  It’s transportable and it’s got a built-in sound system that includes a 20-watt amplifier and 4″ speakers.  While it may not have a toilet inside of it like the Gotta Go Briefcase, it’s got the next best thing.

What’s the next best thing, you ask? The ability to be able to announce to everyone that you’ve divorced Carolyn and you’re eloping with Sarah Palin. It can be powered for up to four hours by eight C batteries or an AC plug. At $350 bucks, embarrassing unwanted attention awaits you.

DIY: Lamp To Parabolic Microphone

Filed under: DIYs, Design, Hacks, Misc. Gadgets

Here’s a great way to eavesdrop on an unknowing sap’s conversation. Objects in Flux’s Scott Mitchell has turned a vintage lamp into a parabolic microphone for recording. It’s got volume control and a headphone socket mounted in the lamps base. This way, no one other than the headphone wearer gets to hear the goods. And by goods I mean the sound of your roommate banging away the night.

The whole project is powered by a 9V battery, which is fitted inside the lamp shade, out of site out of mind. While it does amplify the sound, it suffers in performance due to the small size of the parabolic dish. Mitchell provides circuit diagrams and instructions for the project, perhaps you’d like to make your own, more effective, lamp microphone?

Portable USB Microphone Is A Snowflake

snowflakemic

A new portable microphone from Blue Microphones has been released. It’s called the Snowflake due to its small frame and portability and works as a USB-powered plug-and-play device that will be compatible for both PC and Mac users.

At the base of its sleek case is a slot to hold the USB cable; the whole microphone folds up to easily fit in any laptop bag. And, because it’s from Blue, you already know the sound quality is superb. For just only $80, other microphones will be left in the dust.

Smallest Recorder Ever! Not Just For Espionage

Narae Recorder Mini

If you have a job where interviewing is as common as an Obama “Hope” ad campaign and you just so happen to always have your laptop on you, you might find the Narae Recorder Mini right up your alley. Finally, a reason to get rid of that old digital recorder you’ve never used (unless it also does video.)

The Narae Recorder Mini is insanely small. It plugs into any standard mic jack and doesn’t stick out more than 3″ max. Don’t let its small size fool you, as the Bluetooth wannabe recorder can record sounds up to 32 feet away. This makes it a great gadget for recording people who don’t know they’re being record. Lawsuit? Blackmail? Espionage? This thing’s got more uses than meets the eye!

Pillete: The smaller Bluetooth device

pillete_1.jpg

Many companies claim to have the “smallest” bluetooth headset, but this Bluetooth device concept puts the pill in Pillete. With its pill-like design (and not much bigger than a pill either), the Pillete uses a high-performance microphone to maintain optimal voice quality in an extremely compact size.

The device comes in a pill that is enabled to work when it is folded into a “L” shaped ear bud. It also looks pretty. Always a plus. — Andrew Dobrow

High School Musical brings karaoke to the Wii

hsmwii

Aside from little foam add-ons, no American Wii game has been sold with additional hardware. Apparently the Wiimote had been enough for our needs. The upcoming release from the super popular soundtrack is High School Musical. Much like its affinity for getting children interested in musicals, the game also plans to break ground on the Wii battleground. High School Musical will ship with a microphone for the moments in the game where you will need to sing your heart out, and is expected to ship in August.

High School Musical will follow the plot of the made-for-TV Disney movie, while the included karaoke songs will be for music from the second installment of the series. Who would have thought that a karaoke game involved a plot? High School Musical now engages in a race with Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party to be the first game to release specialized hardware for the Wii. As well as the first full music themed game. — Andrew Dobrow
