Watch Live as NASA Assembles the Mars Rover
NASA has a little treat for all of us robot and/or space junkies out there. From 8 a.m. PT (11 a.m. ET) every morning, Monday-Friday, work begins at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif, as engineers carefully assemble the Curiosity Mars Rover. And you can watch them do it live with NASA’s Curiosity Cam. Other than occasional “maintenance periods” (obviously just the points of the assembly where the engineers attach the technology given to us by aliens), you can... Continue reading
Real-Time Augmented Reality Equips Your Home with a Holodeck
I envy Spock in so many aspects of life that it’s almost sad. I said almost! His odd, yet charming pointed ears, his vast intelligence and superior brain, his hot piece of space tail (Uhura), even his uncanny resemblance to Leonard Nimoy. But perhaps most of all, I envy his use of the Enterprise’s Holodeck. Amazingly, the RT2 chara AR Project is close to making simulated reality a real reality. Demoed at Digital Content Expo 2010, the RT2 AR chara... Continue reading
Conan O’Brien Turns to the Web with 24-Hour Live “Coco Cam” Webcast Event
Ever since his not-so-amicable split with NBC in January, Conan O’Brien took to the internet, not only to passive-aggressively rage against the machine, but to tout his next venture, Conan on TBS, which debuts on November 8, 2010. His newest venture is slightly more ambitious than a series of tweets. Starting at 1 pm ET, Conan takes to the web with a 24-hour live webcast event, dubbed “Coco Cam.” Coco Cam will provide a behind-the-scenes look at Team Coco HQ... Continue reading

With the iPhone 3.0 OS officially dropping today (though some of us have had ours for a week and have since hacked it for tethering!), MLB.com is pulling all punches with its new iPhone App, At Bat. The first game to be streamed will be tomorrows Sox vs Cubs matchup at 2:20pm. For $10, you seriously can’t... Continue reading
Microsoft Sells 30 Millionth Xbox 360
Like it or not, Microsoft has managed to dominate the console market in just a few years. The company just announced that it has sold over 30 million Xbox 360s around the world. In addition to that impressive number, Microsoft has 20 million Xbox Live subscribers. By comparison, Activision-Blizzard’s World of Warcraft has around 12 million. Talk about a cash cow. Link
Coldplay Giving Away New Live Album
Say what you will but some people, myself included, happen to like Coldplay. If it weren’t for us fans, why else would the band decide to give away its new live CD “Left Right Left Right Left.” You can get a CD version for free at their concerts or you can download the entire album on Coldplay’s official website. Music is great but it’s even better when it’s free. Link

Groove On This, Hippie: Free Phish Downloads
Some of us at Gearfuse enjoy the jam band Phish. Others hate them, but no one can deny their almost cult-like status as musicians. Considering their reunion shows for 2009 sold out in minutes, Phish didn’t want to leave the rest of their fans hanging around with no jam to groove on. The band has announced plans to make digital downloads of each show available on their website for a limited time. They say the best things in life are... Continue reading
