Water-Powered Calculator Sounds Dangerous

No need for batteries with this calculator. The Water Powered Calculator runs by the power of hydro. To power the device you just pour water into the rear power panel, place the stopper, and the electrolytes in the water generate enough power to keep this little guy chugging along, squaring your roots.

The device is said to be perfectly safe, and we guess we see how it could be, but mixing water with its large LCD screen can’t make the calculator a gadget that lasts too long. Water is bound to leak into the screen, we would think. But definitely a cool idea fo’ sho’. Get yours for $8.99, plus the cost of utilities. — Andrew Dobrow

Samsung YA-DS200: The “mobile speaker”

YA_DS200_3_1.jpg

Despite its appearance, the Samsung YA-DS200 is not a cellphone. In fact, it’s a mobile speaker system. Compact and sleek, the 800mW speaker to go has the same design scheme a the Samsung YP-K3 MP3 player and would make an excellent addition to your portable media sound system.

Its LCD screen displays levels of the audio output as you listen. The YA-DS200 Speakers will be available soon in Korea, and than everywhere else soon after. Hopefully. — Andrew Dobrow

The NDS Lite FM Radio Converter is a cool and compact Nintendo DS extension that adds FM radio to your gaming experience. Especially good for those moments where the game music is going to make your ears bleed. It’s easy to set up and has a blue-lit LCD screen built in to display the station number.

The FM Conterter has a frequency range if 87.5mhz-108mhz so most stations anyone wants to tune into can be heard from the comfort of your handheld console. It emits studio audio quality and doesn’t require any other battery or power source other than the power it gets from the DS itself. And it only weighs in at a light 19.5g. For a very affordable $14, it’s a cool addition. — Andrew Dobrow

Matchbox Cellphone Concept

matchbox_5_1.jpg

Take a look at some of Lv Zhongfang’s work and you’ll be able to see how much of an original the designer truly is. This Matchbox cellphone concept is one of the coolest design ideas we’ve seen yet, and if ever realized, could change the interface of cellphones as we know it. Not a clam shell or a linear modeled design, the keypad actually slides inside of the LCD screen panel, giving it the matchbox look.

The finished concept is really a magnificent product design which we hope to see be produced eventually. We imagine a phone like this selling well, especially with how small it would be. Who knows, maybe one day it’ll actually hold matches too! But yeah…probably not. More pics after the jump.

General Electric announced its new venture into the digital camera market through a fleet of releases through General Imaging, a small manufacturer created by the former president of Olympus. GE will be producing a series of branded cameras, all with red eye removal and image stabilization, including a high end model called X-1 which will feature an 8 MP sensor, 12x optical zoom, and a 2.5in LCD screen.

Along with the X-1 release will be the slick G-series (G-1, pictured above) which will feature a more sleek, compact design for us photo hobbyists and gadget nuts. The G-1 will feature a 7 MP sensor, 3x optical zoom, with a small design which measures 3.5 inches wide by 2.5 inches high. Also available will be a mid-range E-series, which will feature from 8 to 12 MP, and 4X to 5X zoom. Prices and availability are yet to be revealed, but knowing GE, it will be mass produced. — Andrew Dobrow

Olympus P-1 DSLR teaser photos

oly1_1

Although not yet formally announced, the follow up to the Olympus E-1 is being codenamed P-1. Teasing us as they always do, here is some photos of the upcoming Olympus release. This thing looks solid as a rock and all of the knobs and buttons lead us to believe a feature full DSLR on the rise.

The LCD screen can be flipped out and swiveled which means that there might be an integrated live view function, which while cutting down on missed shots, will also mean a lessoning of screen size. Regardless, the Olympus P-1 is looking like a monster.

DIY LCD TV wall mounting the easy way

monster powermount

No doubt about it. Buying your first LCD screen is an enlightening experience. While testing the product at the store, your mouth salivates with anticipation and awe at the clear color. Once you’ve made the decision to own one of these flatscreen suckers, the trouble begins. How do you hang the damn thing up without losing your pride and asking a handyman to do it? The Monster PowerMount (shown at CES 2007) puts the power of the handyman in your grasps, creating this useful contraption that makes DIY LCD installment a simple task. While the mount only works on LCDs up to 24 inches, the PowerMount has a built in cable management system to ensure no dangling or misplaced wires, not to mention a lower risk of tangling. While mounting the LCD still does involve work and effort, it at least can be done as a DIY project, with the ending result being a rousing success. — Andrew Dobrow

The addition of a 3 in, high resolution LCD screen, aids you in taking beautiful pictures of your ugly family, and breathtaking landscapes of your own lawn (my lawn is better).
