JVC Mega Storage Everio Camcorder

I’m tired of my camcorder running out of room. If only there was a camera that was capable of storing over 50 gigs of my Benny Hill impersonations. What’s this? JVC announces two new cameras that have larger hard drives than my desktop PC. The JVC Everio GZ-MG840 and GZ-MG880, both capable of 720×480 wide format DVD-resolution video and a 352×240 resolution format, optimized specifically for YouTube.

The Everio is the juggernaut of storage capacity when it comes to camcorders. The 60GB for $750 and the 120GB for $810 are two models already available in Japan which have us sitting in the dark, waiting for a release in the states.

Victor/JVC UX-DM8 iPod stereo dresses to impress

victor jvc ux-dm8

This is a very nice looking stereo, something that has become commonplace with iPod docks. Yes, this is an iPod dock, what is new? This particular stereo is called the Victor/JVC UX-DM8 (companies still having a hard time with the naming process) and it is set to be released in February. So what sets this iPod station apart from the competition? The fact that it has 1GB of internal flash storage mean  something. It also has a USB connection to hook up to your PC and truly communicate with your PC, not just charge it. The speakers look as if their covers come off, revealing some very nice looking monitors. The units will come in three colors: black, white, and grey. They are a standard size for a small stereo (140×251x234.5mm), meaning they won’t require you to buy a new cabinet to hold all the hardware. One other nice feature is the remote. Most other remotes are very small and limited. This remote looks as if you could control every function from the remote, something that is very useful if you do quite a bit of sound tweaking.

New JVC KD-NX5000 is all the media you need in a car

jvc kd-nx5000

When JVC was working on the KD-NX5000, they were thinking about how to get the bragging rights for best in-car receiver. Where do we begin? Well, it is a DVD/CD receiver with a 3.5 inch monitor, so when you’re in your car you can watch your favorite LOTR (when you’re parked of course). JVC couldn’t leave out a superb navigation system, with 16GB for navigation storage, easy destination search, map coverage of the US (all parts) and Canada, and a freaky voice that will lead you to your destination. Another cool feature that is related to navigation is the traffic tuner, which, when pressed, will give you up to date traffic information, so you don’t have to search your radio stations for 10 minutes only to catch the end of a traffic report. Of course JVC had to incorporate music into this receiver; 24GB of music storage, that is. Yes, that is 24GB of MP3, WMA, or WAV files just for your listening pleasure. Ok this is cool: there is an optional adapter which lets you connect compatible phones and mp3 players to the receiver, and it even lets you make calls with it. No word on pricing, but this looks to be pretty expensive. — Nick Rice
