iPhone Extortion Plot Takes Advantage of Jailbreaking

iphones-get-jailbreak-security-warning-0

So you think you’re real smooth jailbreaking your iPhone, huh? Really pulled the wool over the eyes of Apple, you did. Dutch jailbreakers beware. A hacker from the Netherlands was recently able to conive a series of Dutch iPhone users into using his software to “jailbreak” their device. When the supposed jailbreak is complete and the phone is rebooted, users receive this message: “Important Warning: You iPhone’s been hacked because it’s really insecure! Please visit doiop.com/iHacked and secure your iPhone right now! Right now, I can access all your files. This message won’t disappear until your iPhone’s secure.” Riiiiiiight. D’oh!

Users are asked to deposit $5 into a PayPal account in return for a promised solution for unhacking the device, most likely just a factory reset of the phone. This is a warning to all you jailbreakers out there. Shit can happen. Be safe. The Force is with you.

Dev-Team Releases 3.1.2 Jailbreak PwnageTool 3.1.4

pwnagetool

A few days ago, geohat released his updated Blackra1n app which promised a 30-second jailbreak for all of the Apple touch devices. Some people, including myself, had some issues with the updated app, some reporting that the app left their device stalled in restore mode. The Dev-Team has released their slightly-less user friendly, albeit more reliable, PwnageTool 3.1.4 for jailbreaking all 3.1.2 updated devices.

Make It Rain, Bitches: Blackra1n 30-Second iPhone 3.1.2 Jailbreak App Goes Live

blackra1n

Blackra1n claims to be a 30-second jailbreaking tool for all devices running the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware. I didn’t have much success when I ran the app, but a lot of people seem to be having more luck than I.

The Blackra1n blog warns that 3G or 3GS users who require their phones to be unlocked should not upgrade to 3.1.2 just yet as their phones will no longer be unlocked, pretty much transforming their devices into anĀ  iPod Touch. Blackra1n also does not hacktivate your device.

Reminder: Our Complete iPhone Hacking Guide

If you haven’t upgraded to the iPhone 3GS, you’re in luck. We’ve posted a guide that details how iPhone 2G and 3G owners can easily jailbreak their iPhone and get all the apps they desire for free. That’s right: nadda. Nothin’. So sit down, pull up an iPod cable and check it out.

How To: Hack Your iPhone and Never Pay For Another App Again

appulous

Disclaimer: This tutorial/HOW TO is for educational purposes only. That being said, we know damn well what we’re trying to do here I assume.

What this tutorial will do is jailbreak (not unlock) your iPhone so that you can download independent apps from developers. A VERY STRONG RUMOR HAS IT that you can also download apps cracked from the iTunes App Store. I’ve confirmed this. This is a Mac OS X only tutorial. Suck it, Windows.

First, you’ll need an iPhone 2G (the original) or an iPhone 3G. This hack DOES NOT WORK on the iPhone 3GS, so don’t try it. Ready? Have your shit backed up and an iPod cable ready? Good.

Step 1: Download the redsn0w jailbreak app.

Step 2: Get a .ipsw file of the iPhone 3.0 OS. Google around, check Hackulo.us or whatever.

Step 3: Plug iPhone into your Mac, follow on screen instructions. You’ll be putting your phone into DFU mode and within minutes, it’ll be back to normal and jailbroken. Mind you, after a jailbreak (at least with me), you’ll need to do a restore later on to access your legitimate applications. Make sure you choose to install Cydia only. You don’t need Icy and can get it later.

Step 4: Open Cydia. Choose to do a “Complete” upgrade to the software. Add “cydia.hackulo.us” to your list of repositories once that’s done.

Step 5: Download AppSync, Crackulous and Installous from the Hackulo.us repository. If you don’t do it in this order, you may get errors.

Step 6: If all went according to plan, restore your iPhone from your last legit backup and you should have Cydia, all your cracked apps and your legit apps on the phone. Congrats! Now you can use Installous to wreck havoc on all the apps you desire.

That’s pretty much it. It took me about 45 minutes to get everything done and now I’m enjoying everything my iPhone 3G has to offer. If you’re squeemish about hacking or have sensitive material on your phone, don’t try this. You have to experience trial and error before getting it right. Now go and enjoy your cracked apps!

iPhone 3G Unlocked By Dev-Team

The original gangsters of unlocking, the iPhone Dev-Team, has finally jailbroken the iPhone 3G through software. Right now, they’re packaging it up for use as a user-friendly application similar to that of Pwnage.

Plus, with the recent announcement of the iPhone 3G gift card, people will be able to activate their iPhone 3Gs from home and thus, will be able to jailbreak them and use them with T-Mobile, etc., just like the good ol’ days. Sure, the next software update will break it, but that’s the price one pays.

iPhone 3G Jailbroken

If you were lucky, last Friday, you walked into an AT&T or Apple store and walked out with an iPhone 3G that you were told to “activate at home.” You, my friend, are one of the lucky ones who was able to purchase an iPhone 3G will little to no hassle (as far as unlocking goes). The iPhone Dev Team probably had a few of these lucky people, considering that their Pwnage tool will unlock the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPhone 3G with ease.

The software should be available to the public soon, but until then, watch the video after the jump to view the proof.

Rotary-Style iPhone

Jailbreaking your iPhone is the norm nowadays. I’m pretty sure no one with an iPhone would be caught dead without some sort of third-party application installed. If you’re a fan of keeping it simple or kicking it old school, check out iDial, a rotary phone application for Apple’s Jesus Phone.

Add it to your iPhone and you’ll be able to relive the 1950s all over again. Dial a 4 with an exhilarating swipe of a finger. Fun. Just don’t try dialing whilst riding your bicycle.

Revirginize Your iPhone: Unpop The Jailbreak Cherry

If you’re feeling a bit guilty about playing such havoc on your iPhone by adding third-party apps (or just don’t fear Apple might add in a secret self-destruct feature for jailbreak’d phones), here’s a tool that can reintroduce your iPhone to its original virgin state.

The iPhone Elite dev team has developed an application that will restore your iPhone back to its pre-jailbreak days. Technically, the program restores the seczone section of the iPhone, restoring the initial unlock code to its original contents. — Andrew Dobrow

13-Year-Old Nerd Claims To Have Cracked iPod Touch 1.1.1

nerd.jpg

A teenage hacker claims to have found an easy way to allow third-party applications to be used on the iPod Touch. While this method doesn’t work on the iPhone (yet), which had its various bugs and app access fixed with the Apple 1.1.1 update, those of you who have bought an iPod Touch will be happy to know that there is an automated jailbreak program now available. We see the iPhone being more complicated, since for the iPod you have no need to unlock the device to use with other carriers (seeing as the iPod touch doesn’t have a phone feature).

So far this method only works for Intel Mac users, and isn’t exactly user-friendly just yet. You’ll have to have some extensive knowledge of the Apple touch platform to work this properly, so don’t go messing with your device just yet unless you know what you’re doing. — Andrew Dobrow
