Nike+ System Hacked To Open Car Doors

ifob-11-mjpg

Using an Arduino, hacker knowledge and a Nike+ iPod Serial to USB adapter, Nathan Seidle was able to rig up a system that constantly checks for his keyfob. When Nate gets close enough to his car, it opens up. When he walks away, it locks. The system worked flawlessly until he realized that while at work, the car would randomly lock and unlock due to his pacing around the office. The fix? Aluminum foil. A classic solution to blocking radio waves. If you want to make your own, instructions are available.

Anyone still pumping out Kid Cudi tracks from a traditional speaker setup is really missing out. With this iPod dock that’s shaped like a log, you and your homeboys will be poppin’ wood all night. Dancing and prancing will never feel more right. And to boot, it’s actually made from a real, honest-to-god log. Killer beats. Tree killer beats, that is.

ipodnano5g

According to a super-secret, though allegedly super-accurate, source, the iPod Nano 5G will include a camera, as well as a widened 1.5:1 aspect ratio screen and the traditional click-wheel.

The above artistic rendering shows what the fifth-generation iPod Nano will look like. According to the source, you can expect the new Nano to be announced sometime between July and September, along with a new iPod Touch. Is this legit? Too legit to quit?

iRly?: Apple Earbud Owl

Filed under: DIYs, Design, Portable Media

owl

Excuse the pun, but do Apple fans really give a “hoot” about owls? Sure, I suppose this Earbud Owl, made using a Epilog Zing laser cutter, does resemble the uber-geeky “O RLY?” macro, but that’s  about the furthest I can go with owl geekiness until I reach the point of obliviousness. Admittedly, this is a pretty neat idea.

The owl’s big eyes are great for multiple things. Seeing things in the dark helps it survive and being big eyed in general is one of the first rules of adorableness.

Apple To Unveil Unibody iPod Classic?

unibodypod

A newly revealed patent suggests that Apple has been pondering the concept of a unibody iPod. The unibody designs which Apple have already displayed through their use in last year’s MacBooks, MacBook Pros and the MacBook Air proves that the stark design allows for thinner devices made with a stronger architecture and sturdier material.

The patent reveals a unibody iPod Classic, appearing to be made out of one uniform piece, rather than a separate front and rear unit. This could only mean one thing. Thinner, stronger devices for all. Pretty groovy in our book.

Apple Raising iTMS Prices

itunes-06-2

Oh shit! If you’re one of the suckers consumers that pays for tracks on iTunes, your world is about to get flipped upside down. Starting April 7th, Apple will charge more than $.99 for songs with popular tracks shooting up to $1.29. This, according to the LA Times, has been in the works for awhile and Apple has apparently let record labels know when the change goes into effect.

Everyone is predicting it’ll be a fiasco and a half if Apple follows through with the change in pricing. As for me, I’ll stick to Bit Torrent thank you very much.
