Spinning LEGOs Produce 3-D Blobs

Three-dimensional printing is tough. That is, if you don’t make one out of LEGOs. Gene Hacker posted his creation on Instructables: a 3-D printer made out of LEGO bricks. It’s still in its infancy of development but is more than capable of rendering 3-D blobs of frosting.

Unlike regular Cartesian system printers, the one Gene built operates in polar coordinates, in other words, a circular motion of printing. When asked why he didn’t build a Cartesian system printer (similar to the LEGO scanner), he replied,

“I didn’t have enough LEGOs to build a Cartesian printer.”

Now, that’s funny.

DIY Outdoor Pizza Oven

Thank Christ for Instructables. Without the DIY-themed site, I wouldn’t be able to to build a pizza oven in my backyard. That’s right. With a free weekend, underpaid laborers from a Home Depot and a few goombas, you and your “crew” can craft the ultimate earth oven. Bake ziti. Bake Rock N’ Roll pizza. Bake lasagna. Just make sure you don’t bake your girlfriend. A garbage disposal works much better.

DIY: Custom Multi Use Dual-Sized Projection Screen

Instructables has posted a cool DIY project that provides more use out of that large projection screen cramping your den. The one they’ve built shows this suave painting simply by turning the screen around. Hey look everyone, it’s the great Steve McQueen of Bullitt doing his famous leaning stance and he’s right here in my living room!

Why settle for less when it comes to an impressive home theater system simply because you lack the space available to portray art and media simultaneously? Better yet, pick a theme (like Pirates of the Caribbean) and not only decorate the back side of your projection screen with the theme but also the walls, ceiling and floor. That way, no one will doubt you’re a fan.

Thank Me Later: DIY Portable Air Conditioner

It’s the middle of July and that means those of us in the Northern Hemisphere are really feeling the heat. With my current apartment, I have no air conditioning in my bedroom and during the day it becomes unbearable at times when temps start reaching the 90s. I need a way to cool off.

Thankfully, Instructables user Farhanians has posted instructions for a DIY air conditioning system that is not only efficient, it’s portable to boot. So now you have no excuse to be walking around your crib naked. Put on some pants, buy the parts and make the AC happen.

Clean your Laptops inner guts

clean laptop

This might not be something you want to do if you expect one day to use your warranty on your laptop, since they usually don’t cover personal foul-ups, but the fine people at Instrucables have made a nice set of instructions for cleaning your laptops inner parts.

The importance of being careful while doing this is essential, since as said above, the company would most likely laugh in your face if you tell them how the computer got messed up. If your feeling lucky and are confident in your tech skills, grab your Q-Tips and have a blast. Stopping an over-heating laptop yourself might just be worth the risk. — Andrew Dobrow
