Rumor: HTC Dream Will Include Sidekick-esque Hardware

Just got a tip from an insider at T-Mobile (or is it Google?) that tells me the HTC Dream will feature a keyboard and trackball almost identical to the Sidekick. Does this mean we could see a Sidekick competitor on T-Mobile? It’d be an odd move but the Android-based Dream will most likely be for the geeked out power user.

That’s about it for now. More information as it comes…

The Chemical Brothers Do It Again

Ah, the kings of big beat, The Chemical Brothers. Their upcoming greatest hits album, Brotherhood, already leaked a week ago but that doesn’t mean the boys can just stop doing promotion and kick back with a pint. No way mate! The Chemical Brothers are known for raising the bar and right now, they’re getting the fans involved.

For their forthcoming greatest-hits album Brotherhood, The Chemical Brothers have asked fans to submit short video clips (2 to 20 seconds) or photographs that celebrate the “insanity that goes on at the stoke of midnight.” The clips, which have been requested to be related to the specific point of origin and include geo-tags, suggest that the group are planning on creating some sort of crowd sourced montage video incorporating footage from around the world.

Apparently, the video will involve both YouTube and Google Earth, which both feature geo-tagging features. It’s a shame they didn’t get Flickr involved in the mix but this appears to be a strictly Google affair. Submit your clips by August 25th via The Chemical Brothers’ website. The clips will air September 1st, right before school starts up again.

Snowl: Mozilla’s Take On Messaging In Your Browser

Is there anything Mozilla doesn’t create that facilitates your web surfing experience? Firefox 3 came out back in June, yet Mozilla is still working hard to provide its users with top end interactivity for its interweb softwares. Now, Mozilla wants to take its browser to the next level with instant messaging integrated into your web browsing. It’s called Snowl, that’s Snow and Owl combined for the less observant. Mozilla Labs lists a few key ideas behind their design phase:

  • It doesn’t matter where messages originate. Whether they come from traditional email servers, RSS/Atom feeds, web discussion forums, social networks, or other sources, they are all the same.
  • Some messages are more important than others, and the best interface for actively reading important messages is different from the best one for casually browsing unimportant ones.
  • A search-based interface for message retrieval is more powerful and easier to use than one that makes you organize your messages first to find them later.
  • Browser functionality for navigating web content, like tabs, bookmarks, and history, also works well for navigating messages.

As of now, Snowl is still in its prototype phase but is free to download at the link provided below. It supports two sources of messages: RSS/Atom feeds and Twitter. No word on whether or not Ogio will make a Snowl backpack. If they did, I’d rock it. Hit the jump for more information:

I Have No Life On Google’s Lively

Step aside, Second Life. There’s a new time-wasting virtual social network just released by Google. It’s called Lively and it’s your ticket to the cyber world, complete with emotes and customized avatars. Screw that pay to play bullshit on Second Life. Hell, no one wants to hear your lame cyber concert anyways. Play on a real stage or go home!

Lively’s client is free to download and runs with IE or Firefox. Images and videos are viewable in Lively, as well as the ability to embed websites, like your Tumblr or other blogs into your Lively “living space.” Though the content isn’t quite there on Lively (lacking an economy like that of Second Life), it’s still free to play and you’ll feel less dorky playing it than you would with Second Life. Give it a try and let us know how it is.

Google Talk For iPhone

The folks over at Google have released a new version of Google Talk designed specifically for the iPhone and iPod Touch browsers in the US. No need to text message here because you can now chat on the go. No install or download required either, just go to google.com/talk, sign in and you’ll be on your way chatting it up with all your frienemies.

Now that the iPhone is becoming more and more like a computer everyday, who says you have to miss out on all the internet goodness when you’re away from your PC?

Google Bar For PSP Next Update

Filed under: Gaming, Internet, Software, Wireless

Web searches on your PSP just got a whole lot easier with the upcoming v4.00 firmware update. Now the Google Toolbar is available for any Wi-Fi connected PSP, bringing you loads of internet meme fun. Another feature coming to the PSP via v4.00 is the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on your memory.

While the PSP could already do practically anything, it was lacking the Google Toolbar it needed to make Googling anything on the go an ease. Vince is hoping they include the “I’m Feeling Lucky” feature; his personal favorite.

Google Street View Prius Pulled Over

Our favorite itch to scratch, John Brownlee, brings to our attention a photo found on Flickr. It features a red Toyota Prius being pulled over by a police officer on a motorcycle. This isn’t any regular Prius though, this is the Google Street View car that takes all those lovely pictures for Google Maps!

Considering how huge that camera mount is, it doesn’t surprise me too much. I can’t help but wonder if the cop actually ticketed Google. I mean, isn’t Google above the law? They probably offered him an invite to Google’s latest secret: Google Cops - a new search engine that helps search for donut shops in a three-mile radius.

Use the Konami Code on Google

Are you that guy who needed 30 lives to beat the original Contra? We know you and so does Google apparently. Google has taken your favorite cheat code of all time (you sly bastard) and integrated it into Google Apps.

To check out the Easter Egg, you’ll need to login to your Google account, bring up Google Reader (Ryan confirmed this) and chill for a second. After the chill, enter in the Konami Code (UUDDLRLRBA), kick back and watch.

Oh and no one could beat that fucking game without 30 lives, so don’t fret.

Google Street View FAIL: A New Internet Meme In The Making

kid-falls-off-bike-street-v.jpg

As far as humiliating shots on Google Street View go, this is surprisingly not the first taste of public humiliation that the Google Maps service has graced upon us. First, we saw the results of a car crashing into a pole, and now, we all get to point and laugh at this kid who happened to fall off his bike as the photos were being shot for the street view.

Is the kid hurt? Probably not anything physically permanent, but the humiliation of his fall might stay with him for a much longer period of time. We’d like to call this, “Google Street View FAIL!”, an ode to those who have been caught in the act of foolishness. — Andrew Dobrow

Google Goes Back To The Future…Again With April Fool’s Prank

gday.jpg

Google never ceases to amaze with their annual April Fool’s antics, and this year, the search giant brings the joke right to their main search page on their Australian domain. Launching a new “service” called gDay, which shows you tommorows search results, before they happen.

We’re sure this will come in handy for those who play the lottery or gamble their savings away at the tracks. It’ll also be fun to use as a spoiler the evening before election day. — Andrew Dobrow
