Inexpensive Illumination: Glow in the Dark Keyboard Stickers

glowinthedark-525

Not everyone is in the financial position to buy a keyboard with illuminated keys. That shit can get expensive. Macbooks might come stock with illuminated keys, but my Dell POS sure as hell doesn’t. What if I’m high off my ass in the dark and can’t remember my QWERTY hand placement? Not a pleasant situation.

These Glowing Keyboard Stickers, made of high quality florescent print, eliminates the need to buy a brand new keyboard just to have a little illumination in your life. They reflect any ambient light, even the glow of your monitor, providing an awesome, and more importantly, cheap alternative.

glow-in-the-dark-iphone-case1

AccessoryGeeks.com sent us over one of their awesome Premium Glow-in-the-Dark iPhone Cases and over the last few hours we’ve been playing around with it, giving the case a little run for its money. First off, the mere thought of having a glow-in-the-dark iPhone is insanely awesome. Glow-in-the-dark capability is just one of those features the Apple should have included from the get-go. I mean, come on Mr. Ives, don’t you know what geeks like? Check out our review after the jump.

Illuminating Mug Glows From Inner Warmth

kinkade-mug

Thomas Kinkade might be a little too grandma-ish for you, but I thought this mug was pretty neat, despite the hokey winter scene design. When the mug is filled with warm liquid, such as urine, the windows of the home illuminate.

My Grandma is extremely aroused. Hot cocoa has that effect on her.

Light Writing in Abandoned Areas

lightwriting

Flickr user { tcb } searches for abandoned property and then performs some awesome light writing effects. The photos speak for themselves. It seems totally worth it, shooting in an abandoned setting. Not only for freedom and safety sake, but because of the personality the settings ooze through their pores.

Each of these settings has a history. And while we don’t know exactly what that history might be, you can feel the energy of the past, of a busier time when perhaps the area wasn’t abandoned at all. The light writing itself? Top notch. (more…)

Fiber Optic Bed Cover and Pillow Will Fit Right In

bedcover

If you’ve already been rocking some glowing furniture, your other rooms must be feeling pretty dark and drab. Sure, you might sort of like sleeping in the dark like a normal person, but the addition of a luminous Fiber Optic Pillow and Bed Cover seems like the sort of glow we could get used to.

I don’t understand the whole Halloween color scheme, I mean, honestly, they could have picked any other two colors, sans green and red. But hey, it’s shiny and it’s cuddly. Can’t get much better than that.

Via Lattea Furniture Gives You That Healthy Radioactive Glow

mario-bellini-2

Air-filled furniture isn’t known for its flawless comfort. I’ve spent some pretty hellish nights on air-mattresses. I could only imagine the experience would have been even worse if the mattress itself was glowing like some radioactive mutant. Thankfully the Via Lattea collection by Meritalia doesn’t include a mattress.

Instead, this glowing set of furniture exudes a totally chill glow. If you’re scared of the dark and just need proof that you haven’t fallen into a dark abyss, these pieces would be perfect for your home decor.

Illuminating Solar Window Blinds Replace Lamps

I’m constantly in search of the strangest lamps and light sources for my bedroom. The solar vertical lamp is much different than your traditional lamp. For one thing, there’s no bulb or electricity powering it. It’s a light source integrated into your window’s vertical blinds that has solar panels on one side that power a LED floor/table lamp or a stylish chandelier displayed on the other side.

Yoon-Hui Kim and Eun-Kyung Kim are two designers looking to free up some room on that end table besides your bed. With a light integrated into your window blinds, what could you possibly need a — for?

Plexiglas Edges Made From CD Case Scraps

We get it. Sometimes you need some light over your new Lou Reed poster but you’re too cheap to buy a black light. Keith Neufeld has got your back. He’ll show you how to build edge-lit Plexiglas strips out of CD case scraps using a white LED that is then heat shrinked to fit the end of each piece.

The result is an impressive DIY light show that you can arrange in any way you see fit. It’s more radiant than a black light and it shouldn’t cost you more than a few bucks to put together.

Development of Jellyfish Goo Earns Scientists A Nobel Prize

Three scientists have won the Nobel Prize for chemistry. Americans Martin Chalfie and Roger Tsien and Japan’s Osamu Shimomura discovered and successfully developed a fluorescent protein found in jellyfish. Jellyfish will glow under blue and ultraviolet light because of this protein which the three scientists have become known for.

It might not sound like much, but this jellyfish protein has been widely used to study the spread of cancer, how brain cells develop and bacterial growth. Still don’t think it’s a big deal?

The academy compared the impact of the protein on science to the invention of the microscope, saying that for the past decade the protein has been ‘a guiding star for biochemists, biologists, medical scientists and other researchers’.

Yes, this is a big deal.

Glowin’ For You

Some Russian modders managed to rip themselves away from South Ossetia for a few minutes and got to messing around with an iPhone. The end result? They made the Apple logo glow when the phone is on. A difficult mod? Hardly. All you need is a white LED with a resistor. Hook it into a power source and a ground on the iPhone and you’re good to go. The only problem is finding someone willing to give up an iPhone for surgery. Good luck with that.
