PureCart: Clean Shopping

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that your local grocer’s shopping cart is packed with germs. Between the babies shitting in the seat and those Dunkaroos smashed underneath a case of soda, there’s said to be over 1 million germs on a cart. Now a system called PureCart could give you a clean shopping cart every time.

The low-cost solution apparently works as follows:

…the PureCart System uses an FDA and EPS approved quick-drying sanitizing solution to quickly clean the entire cart. Sanitizing a cart is as easy as pushing it through the cleaning station where the solution is automatically sprayed on, and for non-wheeled items like a basket or a child seat a wand is also provided to make purifying them just as easy.

Sounds great and all but I think I’ll just stick to the bottle of Purell.

UV Disinfectant Wand for cleaning those invisible stains

Ever seen one of those shows on the Discovery channel when they go into hotels or other grungy places and put on a UV light to illuminate all of the bodily made spittle? Yeah, ew. The UV Disinfectant Wand projects intense UV rays that kill 99.9% of all germs in less then 10 seconds. Since this is radiation we’re talking about here, you don’t want to use this thing consistently on any parts of your body or your potential to reproduce will most definitely be reduced.

At least the Wand is kind of cool looking. It opens in a clamshell flip phone like way so even the clean geek can still hold up his geekish cred. It’s been tested by laboratories nationwide so appears to do the job it says it does, and only runs on 2 AAA batteries. And definitely comes in handy when you have various nerds sneezing crap onto your keyboard everyday. — Andrew Dobrow

Sanyo household air purifiers remove VIRUS from air

sanyo virus washer

Sanyo Japan announced today that they have started to commercialize their proprietorial virus-removal technology onto their line of air purifiers as well as air-conditioners. A regular air purifier removes dusts, if the pores on the sieve gets smaller, it can pick up flower pollens or even some bacteria. If you want to move up one level, we have sieves with electrical properties that can attract and hold these particles and hence attaining an even higher level of air “purification”. However, virus is something that is difficult to tackle, mainly because of their small sizes, even the air treatment systems in most of the Operation Theaters in hospitals cannot remove virus. Sanyo Japan has figured out a way to do that cheap and small enough to fit in your house. The simple story is that they’re using electrolyzed water to attack the virus structure so that they cannot attack your body cells and make you sick. Their lab claimed that the Virus Washer technology is able to remove 99% of norovirus (recent diarrhea outbreak) in air, which cannot be removed by alcohol alone. The whole line of products was demoed this morning, so expect them to be out at the market real soon, no word on price yet. — Sam Chan
