Even though we act like adults, some of us are still kids at heart. The Kotaku boys have done a fantastic roundup of the current NYC Toy Fair and some of the goodies they found are enough to make guys of any age scream with joy. For instance, check out the detail on the Dead Space action figure of Isaac Clarke. Badass, though I think the DIY version is a little cooler. You a Gears of War fan? No worries. I’m sure plenty of you Xbox 360 owners are huge Gears of War fans, whether it be the original or its sequel. Well you’ll be happy to know that Gears of War 2 writer Josh Ortega just spilled the beans on Gears’ long-term plan. Sez Josh:

“You will not be disappointed in the next ten years…It’s a ten-year plan. Gears is long-term. The lancer is the new lightsaber.”

Doesn’t surprise me. Look how long the Halo series has been kicking for. Final Fantasy or Resident Evil? Yeah, I think it’s safe to say that Gears of War is here to stay.

This is how you do it in the Marines. You take an AR-15 automatic rifle, slap on a chainsaw and boom, you have a replica of the Lancer from Gears of War. Sure, you can’t chop people up with it (legally), but what’s to stop you from going apeshit on a cactus out in the Nevada desert? My thoughts exactly.

Good news, in addition to the new maps coming out on Thursday, Gears of War will have whole slew of game update tomorrow January 10.

• Fixed aspect ratio distortion when using VGA cable with 4:3 displays at resolutions higher than 640×480
• Fixed voice issue with new players joining Player Match games in progress
• Players can now get the Achievement for “Dish Best Served Cold” when using Troika turret to kill RAAM
• Fixed rare situation where host could loop countdown and never start match
• Fixed rare situation where players could get stuck after chainsawing in multiplayer
• Reduced Grenade Tag melee distance
• Enabled “Strict� NAT check on host to prevent possible connection issues
• Optimized server browser queries to return results more quickly and prevent scroll bars from hiding quality of service icons
• Reduced number of possible revives in Execution to match Warzone
• Removed host name from Ranked match server browser
• Disabled security cameras in Ranked matches

Are you getting bored with the current maps on one of the fastest selling video games in history? Well, Cliffy B. has good news for you. The game developer turned geek superstar has said that on January 10, there will be two new Gears of War maps released. The two new levels are to be called Raven Down and Old Bones. So what are the missions for these new spankin new maps?

Raven Down: A Raven Helicopter has gone down in the middle of a large scale battle with the omnipresent Locust Horde. Gears have taken out the Seeder and gamers join Delta Forces moving into the crash site from all angles to search for survivors.

Old Bones: In an attempt to eradicate any traces of human history and culture, the Locust Horde has emerged under Sera’s Capitaline Museums and has begun to destroy them brick by brick. Each gamer’s mission is to help the Delta Force recapture the museums before all remnants of humankind’s existence are obliterated.
