Dell Offering PC With 192GB of RAM

hynix-16gb-ddr3-rdimmmetaram-01

Fuck the hard drive. That shit is so 1997. Why bother with storage when you can just call up dell for a PC and store everything in the RAM. What, you haven’t heard? Dell is offering the Precision T7500 workstation, which comes with abnormal amount of RAM slots (16 to be specific). Each slot can take a PC10600 stick up to 16GB. The result? Probably the fastest fucking computer ever. I mean seriously. 192GB of RAM. Think about that.

Dell has played it smart so far and hasn’t announced how much the T7500 will cost with 192GB of RAM. I’m guessing somewhere in the $50,000 range so unless you’re a true professional, I’m sure one 16GB stick will be more than enough.

Safe Way To Store Data: ioSafe Solo

Cheap 2TB hard drives are nice and all, but what if you’re looking for a hard drive that’s a little more diesel? A hard drive that can take a beating and still manages to store all of your precious data safely. That sums up the ioSafe Solo external hard drive. It’s fireproof, waterproof and can pack 1.5TBs of data in the $349 higher-end model.

This hard drive enclosure can withstand a room enveloped in flames for 30 minutes as well as survive being submerged in ten feet of water for ten minutes. The 500GB model is only $199, which isn’t bad at all considering that this will be the only hard drive that will survive nuclear fallout.

JVC Mega Storage Everio Camcorder

I’m tired of my camcorder running out of room. If only there was a camera that was capable of storing over 50 gigs of my Benny Hill impersonations. What’s this? JVC announces two new cameras that have larger hard drives than my desktop PC. The JVC Everio GZ-MG840 and GZ-MG880, both capable of 720×480 wide format DVD-resolution video and a 352×240 resolution format, optimized specifically for YouTube.

The Everio is the juggernaut of storage capacity when it comes to camcorders. The 60GB for $750 and the 120GB for $810 are two models already available in Japan which have us sitting in the dark, waiting for a release in the states.

PNY + GhostBusters = Pinnacle Of Human Achievement

Seriously, what’s better than a 2GB hard drive that’ll store twelve hours of movie goodness on it? How about a 2GB hard drive that also comes pre-loaded with Ghostbusters the movie? PNY is teaming up with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to release these non-themed Ghostbuster USB drives just in time for the 25th anniversary of the film next year.  The question you might be asking is, “How much does it cost?” The question you should be asking is, “How many should I get?” It’s got Ernie Hudson on it right out of the packaging, what more could you want!?

Commodore Comeback

In the wake of the Commodore 64 LAN party comes a new breed of laptop. Commodore is pulling a Steve Jobs, as in: you heard it was dead, but it was all lies. It’s making a comeback with a netbook, go figure, it’s the UMMD 8010/F. Compared to the Commodore 64, it’s loaded. The UMMD 8010/F has a 10″ screen and comes with a processing power of 1.6GHZ, 80GB of hard drive space and 1GB of RAM.

It’s half the price of the Dell E Mini Notebook, with half the RAM. At $600 dollars, it comes packed with a 1.3-megapixel camera and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi capability. But you know the only reason you’d buy it is because it says “Commodore” right below the monitor.

Sony Walkman Making A Comeback

The Sony Walkman was thought to be dead in the wake of iPods and Zunes for quite some time until today, when Sony announced these three individual series of new Walkmen:

Pioneer Jams 500GB Into Blu-ray Disc

Just when you thought that the 400GB Blu-ray discs announced in early July couldn’t get any sweeter sounding, Pioneer renders it obsolete less than two months after. The standard size of a Blu-ray disc is 25 GB on a single layer and 50GB with a dual layer. Well, the fat cats at pioneer were not satisfied with even 16 layers of storage. It needed to go bigger. So, they crammed 25 layers on to the disc, with each layer containing 25GB of memory, totaling up to a whopping 500GB of storage space. Even with Buffalo’s 8x Blu-ray recorder, it’d be a difficult task to fill up 500GB.

Brendan Sheridan, Product Manager of Pioneer Europe NV, Multimedia Division: “With its strong support among the gaming, movie and PC industries, Blu-ray has become the de facto next generation storage system. …we envision the need for a technology that can support far greater capacities as HD streaming in particular becomes commonplace and users build larger files of digital content.”

With Blu-ray getting bigger and bigger, you’re going to need a player for all your friends to know how hip you are. What better than a Playstation 3 for all your media needs at a fraction of the price of other Blu-ray players.

60GB Xbox 360 Pro Rumored

The long-awaited upgrade from a 20GB to 60GB hard drive for the Xbox 360 Pro could be announced at the company’s E3 keynote next month says TrustedReviews. A source says there’s a release scheduled for August before the 10th. If you’ve got a 20GB hard drive on your 360 and your kicking yourself for not holding out for the 60GB, no worries. You can always buy a separate 120GB drive, though dealing with the transfer can be a bitch.

Sources also say that Microsoft is desperately deciding to make “Wii-style avatars” which I assume means “Mii-style avatars.” Either way, lame idea Microsoft. Get your own avatars and while you’re at it, make Xbox Live free.

Apple’s back, and with improved, more lovable MacBook specs

macbookhero20070515_1.jpg

Earlier today, Apple’s online store went up and down faster than Jenna Jameson, but even in that brief down time, rumors of updated MacBooks began to pour onto the internet. And here we are, announcing new specs. Goes to show that not every rumor is wrong or fake.

The standard new and improved MacBook now comes packed with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 1 GB of memory, with larger hard disk space for all. The new MacBook is only an inch thick and features a much faster 802.11n wireless networking capability. — Andrew Dobrow

USB Drive is also a business card

picture_1_2_2.png

Uniquely designed business cards have been sort of a tech blog trend as of the last few weeks. And while we’re not ones to conform, this is one time that we will follow the herd. This business card not only advertises your company, but doubles as a working USB drive.

While it not might be the most practical or financially safe way to go, if you have some extra dough your willing to spend on some advertising, the 1 GB USB business card would be a cool way to go. The downside is that they are about $55 a pop, or in other words, $1000 for a set of 30, or in even more other words, mucho pesos. — Andrew Dobrow
