Where’s Vince?

Seriously, where’s Vince? Could he be rock climbing like this wire-clad lad attached to my fridge? Absolutely not. Vince couldn’t climb if his ass depended on it.

I hear he’s in LA meeting with important people concerning important things exchanging important facts in an important room, but then again – what do I know?

Appliance Alarm Clocks: Exactly Why I Don’t Do Laundry At Night

washer_alarm.jpg

I don’t know how many times I’ve been awaken out of a deep sleep when my washer or dryer goes off with that super-sonic blasting beep. It was even worse in the days where my mother and sister would do their laundry, with me, unsuspecting of the beeping, would be shocked out of my slumber.

Sure, it might be a real pain in the ass, but appliances never had a problem getting my ass out of bed, which is why I kinda see the point behind the Appliance Alarm Clocks. When the alarm goes off, the clocks will act like your everyday appliance, producing animated suds, shaking on its stubs, and making loud swishy noises. Possibly a nominee for the most extreme clocks you’ll never own? Get yours from between $17 and $20. (more…)

Beer launching fridge

[ev type="youtube" data="iqAzMSM-7o4"][/ev]

We have seen fridges that can defrost chicken and grow strawberries, but we have never encountered the one John Cornwell built, a fridge that can launch beers.

Have you ever gotten up off the couch to get a beer for the umpteenth time and thought, “What if instead of ME going to get the BEER, the BEER came to ME???” Well, that was how I first conceived of the beer launching fridge. About 3 months and several hundred dollars later I have a fully automated, remote controlled, catapulting, man-pit approved, beer launching mini-fridge.

He’s also been getting thousands of fan mails trying to order the fridge from him, which would cost 2500USD. Ouch, we’d rather place our fridge next to the couch.

Auto drawer for your fridge: open AND close with a button

hitachifridge.jpg

We’ve been looking at fridges lately, we know that you can grow strawberries, frost and defrost your food there, we also reported that fridge doors can open from either side. Today Hitachi is rising the bar by introducing the world’s first auto drawer for your fridge, whether you want to open or close it, close it in the middle of opening, they’re all as simple as a button press. So no more embarrassment for having difficulty in opening those drawers when you bought too much potato, no more hassle when you don’t have hands at all (use your foot to kick the button). The automatic drawers will be used on Hitachi’s top line of fridges, the first model R-W5700 with 565L of storage will be available later this month with a whooping price of 2600USD. –Sam Chan

Frost AND defrost your food in the same fridge

sharp aijo-hotto-ko

So you think that fridges are used to keep things cold eh? Wrong! Sharp continues to wow us with their new fridges. Now you can frost and defrost food in the same compartment. Sharp is starting to put this feature on to their premium refrigerator models, calling this the Aijo-hotto-ko, meaning “romantic heated container”. While we have no discernment to their Japanese romance, what we do know is that with a turn of a knob you can turn rice-pudding to congee, oreo and warm milk to cookies’n'cream. And that your kids are gonna love this! — Sam Chan

Fridge doors that open from either side

sharp fridge

We never understand the Japanese passion for refrigerators, they seem to come up with a lot of weird ideas that when you think about them, might be really handy. Sharp’s fridges might not be the bestselling, but they’re surely capturing a lot of attention on their fridge doors. These new 300 Liter (volume) fridges are equipped with “Docchimo-doa” fridge doors that can open from either side. As the name suggests, it almost feels like there’re doors everywhere (docchimo). This is useful when you have 30 people gathering in your kitchen, or when you are trying not to let anyone see that you’re stealing jelly. — Sam Chan

Hi, I live on the Equator and I grow strawberries in my fridge

mr-w55m mitsubishi fridge

Fridges are just getting smarter and smarter nowadays, first they put a computer screen and mounted the whole speaker there- that didn’t make big into the market; so they went back to basics. Mitsubishi came out with 3 great ideas. First they put the water purifier in there, so that you don’t have to boil anymore (some people do and some countries have to). Secondly they built movable storage decks with a switch that allows you to adjust the height between them without clearing what’s on top. And the best part, they started putting this Blue LED that helps plants grow. That’s right, plants in the fridge will undergo photosynthesis, even plants detached from the stalk will still undergo some level of photosynthesis, and this helps retain Chlorophyll in your vegies. As usual, these crazy fridges are only found in Japan. Catch the jump for a wonderful family happiness pic. It’s really worth the click.
