Just How Huge is the Internet on an Average Day?
An average day of interneting is no small feat. In fact, it’s a monumentally large feat. An average day can hardly be called average when referring to the internetz. Check out the infographic after the jump to see just how massive the data sent on the Internet is on a daily basis. 43.3 petabytes of data sent through mobile phones daily? That’s a whole lot of sexting.
Social Media Watch: Time to Be Social
I’m pretty sure the consensus is that most people don’t need another reminder to use social media sites. They already take up so much of our time. But how could you possibly resist this Social Media Watch, despite the encouragement it provides for procrastinating more important projects. Featuring all of the major networks, including Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and so on. Each of the 12 digits have been replaced with the logos of your favorite networking sites. You can grab yours... Vintage Postcards Get a Taste of Science Fiction
There’s nothing that can’t be made more exciting by adding robots and aliens. That definitely includes boring, old vintage postcards. Flickr user Frano Brambilla uploaded a set of manipulated photos, featuring vintage post card scenes with a little added zesty flavor of sci-fi. There’s nearly 30 of these shots over at Flickr.
Papercraft Taco Trucks
I know, I know. Taco trucks rule. You don’t have to thank me. Thank @likeomg on Twitter. There’s seven different models to print out and fold up on Goopymart’s Flickr page. Too bad you can’t print out miniature tacos and empanadas to go along with the trucks. Link (Thanks, @likeomg)
Hunch.com Launches
For the past hour, I’ve been playing with Hunch.com, a new online service created by Flickr co-founder Caterina Fake. You essentially ask the site questions, take a little survey and get the answers you want. I found it pretty interesting and answering the questions on the homepage helps others gain knowledge about you. One of the neat parts is that Hunch plans to offer an API in the near future, allowing for some wicked web mashups. Link
LEGO Entertainment System
Check out this LEGO NES that was found on Flickr user Arkov’s page. I love how the controllers have the A and B buttons! Hit the link below to check out the rest of his photos and creations. Really good stuff. Link
Left 4 Dead Cosplay
Left 4 Dead is a smash hit, this is true. But the game has been out for awhile. How do you keep the idea of it fresh besides offering up DLC at random intervals? Easy. A photographer goes out with his friends and recreates scenes from the game. This photoset on Flickr has not only some of the most gorgeous photos I’ve ever seen, they really do pay tribute to Valve’s zombie shooter. Check it out or DIE. Link
Vintage Beer Cans
Jesus Christ! These are beer cans from back in the day? I thought they were empty canisters of motor oil judging by the crude design and packaging. I bet Lockwasher would love to get his hands on some of these for a project. A guy named Dan sent these into The Dieline and this is what he had to say: “I have something I thought you all might find interesting. My friend/classmate Dan Becker and I were able to shoot... Ghost in the Machine: Cassette Art Resurrects Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison
Hendrix and Morrison are long gone in body, but their souls live on through their music, eternally playing through radios and iPods across the planet. Not to mention cassettes. There are still plenty of people who rely on the dead technology of cassette tapes to jam out to their old favorites. But listening to music is only a fraction of what can be done with these ancient musical artifacts. If you have enough time on your hands and enough patience... Continue reading
Steampunk Ray Gun
Not much to say here except for a resounding “WOW.” This ray gun is a steampunk creation that was found on Flickr user Tinkerbot’s photostream. Seems Tinkerbot is all about designing fake ray guns that have a distinct vintage feel. After the jump, a selection of his best works that really put the “punk” back in the already enigmatic steampunk movement.
