Letterpress chic
We’re fascinated by all kinds of technology. Apple’s remix of letterpress and desktop publishing may be more mainstream than steampunk, but it reminds us what a tremendous technology the press in all its manifestations can be. Follow the jump for a short film profiling Manhattan printer Robert Warner, master of printing technology from the turn of the last century. Continue reading
Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly: The Original Back to the Future Fading Photograph
Over the last few days, original archived footage has been unearthed of the original Marty McFly, actor Eric Stoltz, playing the role before Michael J. Fox was called into replace him five weeks into shooting. Oddly enough, what I find most compelling is this alternative fading photograph shot featuring Stoltz instead of Fox. There’s something oddly surreal about seeing someone else in the role. I don’t usually take pride in other peoples’ misery, but I’m super thankful that Stoltz got... Continue reading
A Visual Guide to the Lightsabers of the Star Wars Universe
Comparing the size, design and describing the ultimate fate of each lightsaber, this image is the easiest and most straightforward guide to the lightsabers of the Star Wars universe that we’ve ever seen. Movie Poster Mash-Ups
Living in a major city, you see tons of movie and theater posters pasted on every inch of the city’s walls. The high majority of these posters are defaced in some way. Torn or covered in graffiti. It usually pisses me off to see an artists work defaced, but these movie poster mash-ups are just awesome. I’d so see most of these.
Films of the Future
Movie franchises have become pretty ridiculous. I mean, there are like five Bring It On movies. How many damn American Pie movies have their been? Worth1000 takes on the future of film franchises with their “Future Films” Photoshop contest. Check out a few of our favorites after the jump.
Be Tony Stark: Iron Man Reactor Replica
You call that cold lump of coal in your chest a heart? Sounds to me like you can use a little cardiac boost. This Arc Reactor film replica fits right into your shrapnel-damaged chest. The replica comes emblazoned with the words “Proof That Tony Stark Has A Heart.” No, no it really isn’t. You want proof, feel for a pulse. The reactor only proves he’s part mad scientist. Link [via]
Mobile Phone With An Optical Disc Drive
Indian handset manufacturer Spice recently revealed at the Mobile World Conference, their new mobile phone which features a built-in optical disc drive. Each optical disc can hold up to two-and-a-half hours of video, or enough to rewatch half of The Return Of The King. So far only 40 titles are available, most being Bollywood films, but who knows whether this idea will take off or not. One thing’s for damn sure. It looks like the shit to pop in... Continue reading
