NES Air Max Sneakers Are Not As Cool As They Try To Be

At first, these shoes don’t look much like a classic Nintendo Entertainment System. Look closer. These kicks have D-pads printed around them. Look even closer. See the “Start” button? It’s trying very hard to look like the one on the controller.

Definitely a cool design, but is it cooler than Hennessy’s Cognac Kicks? Absolutely not. Not even close. There is no way Nike shoes modeled after an NES will get you half  the recognition high-tops with a Hennessy logo on it would. Plus, everyone respects high-tops.

Ice Hockey On A Portable DVD Player

This portable entertainment center is the only one in existence advertised with the Ice Hockey game for the NES playing on it. Despite all the expected features of a portable DVD player like a 14-inch crystal clear TFT LCD screen, multi-format disc play (including MP3 and DivX) and a high quality TV tuner for use all over the world; this DVD player is packing more than meets the eye. Again, why else would they advertise Ice Hockey for the NES on it?

That’s because this thing comes stocked with an 8-bit NES emulator. It could have been advertised with any game on the NES, but they chose Ice Hockey. Um, where’s Blades of Steel? For $246.25, it’s the most expensive emulator you ever payed money for. Oh right, it also plays DVDs.

DIY: $30,000 Stereo System

hometheater

Manitoba native Michael Tarasenco built a $50,000 home theater with $30,000 worth of stereo equipment. After many years of being an audio junkie, Michael decided he wanted a theater in his new home. Using no outside labor, the basement was renovated and a theater was built in a 13′ x 28′ area. Watching projected movies on a 92″ retractable Da-Lite screen must be sweet. Couple that with a room modified for great audio and you have quite a multimedia experience going on.

WTF?! Gadget of The Day: Weener Kleener, soap for the penis

weenerkleener.jpg

Uhh, it’s soap, made for the penis. One size fits most men. This of course includes most of Africa, and some of Asia. Stereotypes are funny. I’m gonna go ahead and file this under Home Entertainment.
Check out the warning on the bottom of the packaging. CAUTION: If Weener Kleener ever becomes stuck, soak area with COLD water. I don’t think I’ll ever have that problem :-(. Available now for the price of $7.49 and the death of many spermatozoa. — Andrew Dobrow

TV combo and DVD player for the real Pirates

pirates.jpg

If you happened to be a fan of the Pirates of Caribbean movie and sick of all those stupid costumes & party balloon packs, you might be interested in this new line of home electronics offered by Runa Japan based on the movie. The retro 14″ CRT TV (with DVD below) is going to look hot in your room, your friends should be really impressed with the compass-like remote controller which looks very user unfriendly, you can also spend money on the steering-wheel looking stand-up DVD player. If you that’s not enough to wow your kids, you can also pick up the CD boombox which looks like a treasure chest.

Expect to see some of these electronics by mid May at downtown Japan. The TV, DVD player and CD boombox are priced at $260, $110 and $70 respectively. –Sam Chan

Sharp to sell the world’s first touch-pad remote

sharpremote.jpg

Sharp updated their line of AQUOS-TV-plus-desktop-PC series, but we are not interested in that. What really caught our attention was the remote the came with it, because it is the world’s first remote controller with a touch pad. Now you can have a real TV-internet experience, just forget about your keyboard and mouse, you can type with the alphanumeric keys just as it is on phones, you can also browse the internet easily with the intuitive touch-pad. Thanks to the touch-pad and the redesigning of the menu, the number of buttons on the new remote has decreased 40% from the older one, which is already really good considering that the OS is from Microsoft. (You can’t exactly compare this with the iMac remote, as this is so much more powerful) We can expect the touch-pad remote be followed by other manufacturers later, or at least be applied to a wider range of Sharp products. The new remote will ship with the new Aquos PC systems in late March. –Sam Chan

Get you music on 200dB without waking up anyone: Yamaha Sound Projector

yamahabeam.jpg

Yamaha has been working on an interesting sound delivery technology with their sound systems, they call this the “Sound Beam”, which essentially is a more focused chain of sound wave adjusted to give the loudest intensity to the listener and the listener only. With that, you will still be able to listen to your music at a house party with everybody screaming around, and your music will pretty much not be affected or affect the background music. If you feel like turning up your system to full power in the middle of the night you can definitely do that with these Yamaha Sound Projectors, because the beam will only be focused on to the spot you sit, everybody else in the house should not be affected. These Sound Projectors can still support and reproduce REAL 5.1 channels surround sound (real, not virtual, in one body, yes), it can also make use of the walls and ceilings in your house to have the beams bounce off, the system only takes 3 minutes to optimize itself for your room. These sound projectors are mainly used for connecting with your TV, they are currently priced at 825USD in Japan. –Sam Chan
