Gas-powered Snowboard

Take the fun of a snowmobile and put it on a snowboard. That’s the idea here. If you love going up to the mountains in the winter and carving up the trails, you’ll fall in love with this $2000 toy from Hammacher Schlemmer. It features a 6.5 horsepower engine that can carry riders up to 250 pounds at up to 18 MPH. That’s pretty damn fast for a snowboard. There’s spiked footplates that allow you to keep your grip and a steering mechanism as well. All in all, it looks like the most fun you’ve had all winter, essentially. Just be sure you stay warm.

Will You HEMI Me?

If a NASCAR race is you and your partner’s idea of a lovely date, then we’ve got a ring that’ll really help you out when it comes time to pop the question. It’s a HEMI ring. As in, it’s modeled after a Dodge HEMI engine. There are rubies in the blower and it’s made entirely of sterling silver.

At $400, it’s a bit pricey but nothing compared to a decent engagement ring. Just make sure you have a real Dodge HEMI-equipped car in the garage, ’cause you’re going to need it once your fiance flips shit because you didn’t get her diamonds. Hey, at least you don’t have to water it every day.

Honda V4 Motorcycle Concept

Powered by the Honda V4 engine, which was originally used in the 1980s on Honda motorcycles, this new concept from Honda suggests that the automaker might be bringing it back in a new bike. Check out those sweet curves and bodacious rims. Actually, it’ll probably never see the light of day considering Honda commissioned it to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the V4 engine. One can dream though, no?

The Burnout Machine

Ever seen a radical car do a crazy burn out in the movies? It seems Steven Laurie was big on watching that kind of stuff. So big that he decided to make his very own Burnout Machine. It looks like a moving dolly mixed with a lawnmower to be quite honest.

The machine works by powering it up and revving the engine. You hold on to one end to keep the thing from flying away and next thing you know, smoke is pouring out everywhere and you’ve gone to the hospital for carbon monoxide treatment.

Origami V12 Engine

Montreal native Yee is crazy for origami. Offering DIY kits on his site, you too can create an origami V12 paper engine that pumps just like the real thing (with the help of electrical wires, a resistor, a motor and a battery holder).  Damn shame it can’t power a car with pencil shavings. Well, there’s always the next millennia.

The Rocket Chair Sends Alice, Bang, Zoom, Straight To The Moon, Instead Of Ralph’s Fist

rocketchair.jpg

“I’m not the chair they think I am at home, oh no. I’m a Rocket Chair!” or so says Sir Elton John. There are so many cultural references to be made here, I’m losing my mind. Whether it be the spousal abuse overtones of The Honeymooners or 1970’s pop-rock songs, it never ends!

Yet, I digress. The Rocket Chair is the creation of Ky Michaelson, aka the Rocketman. Take a seat and strap yourself in because the 500-pound thrust hydrogen-peroxide engine mounted on this baby will set you airborne for a exhilarating 45 seconds. There is so much thrust put out by this engine that all seven gallons of fuel are guzzled up in the short flight.

NES Controller Car Engine Mod: Just Another Attempt At Geek Cred

vvtinintendo.jpg

You might have your car’s interior and sound system down as far as geeky prowess goes, but what lurks under the hood? A standard engine just won’t do for my fellow car modding comrades, oh no! We need more! Better! Geekier!

The owner of this car is such a huge fan of the NES console, that he modded a NES controller design right into the very innards of his VVT-i 16 Valve engine. Blasting away at all cylinders, this modded Toyota deserves some serious respect. Hit the jump for a close-up. (more…)

Yamaha’s hybrid electric bike saves you when you need it the most

yamaha pas bikes

We have seen hybrid cars for a while, now we have hybrid bikes. These new Yamaha bikes can store up energy in a Lithium battery when you are cycling, and helps you by releasing power when you are going upslope. This is all done by sophisticated sensors, and by not helping you at all when it detects that you are on flat ground or running down the hill. However, in case you are too tired to cycle back home after a day of work, you can still use the energy saved up from the morning (that is, if you have tried hard enough in the morning), Yamaha claims that it can drive you across a distance of 104km. Of course, these claims are based on lab investigations, in real life it depends on how heavy you are. In Japan, these bikes will cost you between $770 to $1200 depends on which model you pick. — Sam Chan
