Gigantic LEGO DSi

dsilegos

You think you’re the ultimate Nintendo fanboy? Not even close. Why don’t you spend a weekend with some LEGOs and one up Sean Kenney. After all, he’s the dude who made a 51,324 piece DSi out of LEGOs, complete with a drawing of a strange cat. Kenney spent over 200 hours on the project which will be on display at the Nintendo store at Rockefeller Center. I might have to go check this thing out in person…

Nintendo To Roll Out App Store?

Take this rumor with a grain of salt, but there’s indication that Nintendo could be coming out with an App Store of its own for the Nintendo DSi. The device has two cameras on it, so it makes perfect sense to allow third-party developers to take advantage of the DSi’s unique hardware. Sources say that Nintendo is actually pushing this idea and will also expand the DSi to downloadable games as well.

So in essence, there’s finally some good news out there for Nintendo fanboys.

Nintendo Announces DSi Release Date and Price

nintendoDSIbox

Been waiting years for the next hot Nintendo console? No worries, my friend. I have no hatred for the Nintendo DS. In fact, I used to own one a few years ago and loved it. If there’s one thing Nintendo does right, it’s portable gaming. But enough about me, you want to know about the upcoming DSi handheld. Well you’ll be glad to know it’s almost here! It drops April 5th nationwide in the US and will retail for a reasonable $169.99.

Can’t remember what makes the DSi so vastly superior to its little brother, the DS? For starters, it has two built-in cameras for taking photos and videoconferencing. There’s also now included software that allows for music and video playback. Additionally, this is brand new hardware, which means brand new games. Don’t fret though – it’ll still play “most” of your old DS games.

Use Korg DS-10 Software As A Talkbox

Here’s a video of a gentleman from Japan using his Nintendo DSi, the microphone, Korg DS-10 software and a bendy straw. He then proclaims it’s a “Talkbox! Talking modulator!” I couldn’t agree more. If you’re looking to live out your Peter Frampton fantasy, this is as cheap as it gets. Just don’t embarrass yourself with a similar Youtube video.

Nintendo DSi Sells Out In Japan

As if you expected any less, Nintendo’s new DSi portable gaming console flew off shelves as Japanese consumers braved both Godzilla and a bad economy to get their hands on one. It supposedly took only two days for Nintendo to move 170,000 units of the 200,000 available. If you’re worried about importing one, have no fear; Nintendo is prepping another 100,000 units to be shipped out to retailers, ensuring everyone will be able to get their DSi fix.

Nintendo Strikes Back

Sorry to burst your bubble, pirates, but it seems that Nintendo’s next handheld unit will block flash carts used for pirating games. It took Nintendo a long enough time to take legal action against the creators of such flash carts as the R4 or N5, now it’s making damn sure that no one is going to illegally emulate its games.

The following flash carts are confirmed not to work on the Nintendo DSi:

Nintendo DSi Officially Announced

After Nintendo’s dodgy business of denying the speculation of its new handheld’s existence, the company cracked, officially announcing the DSi. Could it be trying any harder to be an iPhone? Nintendo cut the GBA slot from its Lite model, meaning no more backwards compatibly for you Pokemon-lovers. To make up for this loss, the screens are 17 percent larger and the whole unit is 2.6mm thinner than the DS Lite. As speculated, it will come packed with a VGA camera and it’s got music playback. What wasn’t mentioned was the on-board memory, built-in Web browser and SD slots enabling the transfer of images to the Wii Photo Channel.

The DSi is starting to sound more and more like an Apple product. Nintendo will even be launching a DSi store that’ll release downloadable content via WiFi. Look for Nintendo’s new handheld November 1st if you’re in Japan and have $180 bucks on you. If you’re in America, you’ll just have to wait.
