Dreamcast Controller iPhone Dock

dreamcast-iphone

Old meets new(ish) in Jay Hauf’s Dreamcast iPhone Dock creation.

Mr. Hauf, you have just propelled yourself into one of the top spots for best iPhone dock mod. I don’t know if this is cooler than the Dinosaur Dock, because come on, it’s a fricken’ dinosaur, but it’s pretty damn close.

Virtual On Reborn On Xbox 360

voonsticksjpg

Have you ever played the Dreamcast/Arcade classic Virtual On? It’s one of those wacky robot games that has a huge cult following. The Dreamcast version came with these twin arcade sticks you’d use to play the game with. Since then, nothing has come close to the same gaming experience – until now. Some Japanese dude took two candy tubes, wired out his 360 buttons and essentially, owned it. Nice work.

See? The Dreamcast and the iMac Can Be Friends

dsc07243jpg

What do you get when you combine the power of a Sega Dreamcast with the shitty display of an old 1999 iMac? The iCast, of course.

The clutch part of this mod, however, is that creator Logicdustbin was able to squeeze the entire Dreamcast console inside the plastic shell of the iMac. The controller ports even run out the front. Bravo. Now do you think you can turn it into a guitar amp? Try that out for size, kiddo.

Dreamy Dreamcast Turned PC

The Internet is a glory hole of custom PC cases like this hideous Volkswagen case and this case with a face. It’s also a great place to find what DIYers (like Japan’s Akiba PC) are up to next.

Having finished their SEGA Saturn case mod, the crew of Akiba PC turned their attention towards the late, great SEGA Dreamcast. What resulted is the dreamiest Dreamcast ever. With a Sony Blu-ray drive, an AMD mini-ITX mainboard with 780G Chipset, an ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics, HDMI output, 4GB RAM and 160GB storage; this computer is lookin’ cooler than any Alienware. The controller ports have even been replaced with USB ports. Neat, huh? So much for playing Shenmue on it, though.

8 Oddball Games That Were Easily Forgotten

This week we’ll be taking a look at some strange games that we can’t seem to get out of our head. They may be bad, they may be good but they all share the same fate of being lost in time. The games that comprise this list are not the Loco Rocos or Katamari Damacys out there that shoot for wackiness, but rather the subtle, obscure games that tried to be normal but just couldn’t pull it off.

Portable Dreamcast: Play Again

portable-dream.jpg

Recently we spotted a Portable Sega Genesis system, and now the ill-fated Dreamcast also has a portable system to take on-the-go. The Portable Dreamcast allows you to play any Dreamcast game, with the disk slipping right in the back of the device.

Dreamcast was one of Sega’s systems which never quite took off like they expected, but still made a nice dent in the gaming world when it was still around. If you still have Dreamcast games lying around, you probably need a new way to play them, seeing as your Dreamcast is probably shoved in storage somewhere. — Andrew Dobrow

Sega Denies Dreamcast Revival

dreamcast.jpg

Following rumors that Sony was working on a re-entry into the gaming console market, Sony (ahem, did we say Sony? Sega…yes, Sega of course) has publicly dashed any hopes of a Dreamcast revival, much to the defeat of Cartman and the rest of the South Park cast. Originally launched in November 1998, Dreamcast was pulled from production in 2001, at which point Sega left the console market to focus on software.

Senior Sega US spokesman Charlie Scibetta commented on the rumored comeback with a statement saying Sega “has no plans to get back into the console business” and is “very happy being a platform agnostic company”. The rumor started when Sega changed the Dreamcast trademark to what seems to be random tech terms, such as “floor pads” and “flash memory cards”. In the meantime, we have this awesome Dreamcast guitar DIY project to orgasm over. — Andrew Dobrow
