Macworld Coverage

Macworld begins today with a keynote from Apple. Steve Jobs won’t be coming and the Apple Store is down, so I’m curious to see what will come out of today. Look for our coverage after 1PM EST.

Boskke’s Upside Down Sky Planters Save Water And Get In Your Way

Oh my! Has the world turned upside down!? No, it’s just these household plants hanging upside down from the ceiling. The designer, Patrick Morris, had the strange desire to hang potted plants from his ceiling. After many trial and error attempts and a lot of soiled furniture, Patrick came up with a unique reservoir system that feeds water directly to the roots without leaks or evaporation, using up to 90% less water than ordinary pots. He’s calling it the Sky Planter.

Realizing the unlimited potential upside down plants have, Patrick and his brother formed Boskke, their New Zealand-based company which sells the Sky Planter for $75 to $195. The best part: You’ve only got to water your plants once or twice a month. The downside: you need a ladder to water them.

Yahoo! Redeems Itself

Remember how Yahoo fucked you out of all your music by shutting down its DRM server and not giving you any reimbursements? Well, it has rightfully decided to reimburse its paying customers. Turns out Yahoo feels bad for screwing customers over. Nice of Yahoo! Music to consider the folks who keep its workers from going hungry.

Yahoo, in return for shutting down their music service, is promising either refunds or a replacement DRM-free version of tracks that you downloaded via its service. All current users will automatically migrate to Real’s Rhapsody service. Gone are the days that the recording industry makes money off of forcing folks to rebuy all their music every time there’s a format change. Trent Reznor makes his music free, why can’t everyone else?
