Mortal Kombat vs. Donkey Kong

Oh, come on. The Kong man didn’t even put up a fight! In his defense, I guess it’s kinda hard to fight back when your being speared by Scorpion.

Soda Donkey Kong Has Sweet Root Beer Nipples

dksoda

I’m not quite sure how this Donkey Kong soda monster remains standing while simultaneously defying the laws of gravity in several places. In fact, it might be shopped for all I care.

All I know is that I have a sudden craving for root beer.

Retro Arcade Game Messenger Bags

retro-arcade-game-messenger-bags_1

For people who grew up on games like Pac-Man, Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders and Super Mario Bros. these Retro Arcade Game Messenger Bags are like a little piece of heaven.

I’m a geek, which means I tote a lot of crap around with me wherever I go. My camera, a book or two, my various electronics, a moleskine, so on and so forth. A bag of some sort is essential for getting through the day. I might just have to fork out some cash for one of those Mario or Space Invader bags. Hell, maybe both.

Donkey Kong Shelves Are Worth the Asymmetry

donkey-kong-shelf

Asymmetry is a big no-no in the world of interior design. But much like any other rule, there are exceptions. This Donkey Kong shelving idea is definitely not symmetrical, but the dash of gaming culture it adds is SO worth it.

Anyway, the asymmetrical parts sort of cancel each other out. Am I right? It brings Donkey Kong from the screen, to the streets, and back to your wall.

Donkey Kong In Brick Form

tb-dklegadojpg

Don’t get any ideas with the words ‘brick form’ floating around, you pothead. The bricks I’m talking about are none other than LEGOs. Some guy named Fantastic Rob managed to construct this beautiful homage to the original Donkey Kong video game, complete with flames, barrels and a big ol’ ape sitting atop it all. Ten bucks says it’s easier to beat than the original title, too.

Mrs. Pac Man Wants To Get In Your Pants

If you’re AA sponsor made you get rid of your beer belt, here’s something else to help keep our pants on. An Etsy crafter by the name of HutchMe made these spiffy belt buckles featuring shiny renditions of retro video game icons including Mario, Mrs. Pac Man, Donkey Kong, and one of those Space Invaders aliens. They’re the perfect accessory for Texan oilmen who have a hardcore gaming habit.

Video game belt buckles have actually been done before, but these look much better. Sadly, none of the gamer I’ve seen so far actually feature a functioning screen like the one on the Pong watch. After the jump, check out more of HutchMe’s arcade-themed belt buckles.

I Am 8-Bit (Really, I Am)

Here is a collection of screenshots from last weeks fourth annual ‘i am 8-bit’ art display held at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery in Hollywood. It was chock full of impressively intricate art centered around classic old-school titles like Elevator Action and Donkey Kong. They even had displays of old controllers, people playing arcade games in their underwear and Mario wallpaper. Wish I could’ve been there.
