Hanukkah starts at sunset tonight, and many jews still use traditional menorahs lit with candles. There is no need anymore my friends! This cool DIY project shows you how to make an LED lit menorah.

DIY: Indestructible USB Drive

usb_drive_48.jpg

USB drives are definitely cool to have around. Though, a lot of the time, we would would never trust them with important data files, just because they break too damn easy. If you have one in your pocket and you sit the wrong way, forget about it. It’s history. Luckily for us, this happened one to many times to modder Russell Jones, the hack artist of the Indestructible USB drive.

Made of a hard aluminum casing, this DIY project will make your USB drive virtually indestructible, even under the most harsh of tight pants situations. It’s a easy step by step mod so you should be able to keep up. — Andrew Dobrow

Shoot the alarm clock when you want to snooze

shootalarm

When we hear that alarm clock beeping in our ears in the morning, we either ignore it, or wish we had a gun to blow the damn thing to pieces. With this gun operated alarm clock you can have all of the fun of the second option, while wiping out the need of the first. Designed by Roger Ibars, this resulting gadget from a DIY project is an uplifting way to start the morning.

When the alarm starts beeping, all you gotta do is grab the Duck Hunt-like gun from your night stand and pretend to blast the annoying beeper into nonexistence. The clock is only a concept model so don’t expect to be seeing it on any store shelves, though this idea is too good to pass up. A gun is one of the only things we wish we had in the morning, if not only to shoot up our neighbors’ yapping dog. DIY LCD TV wall mounting the easy way

monster powermount

No doubt about it. Buying your first LCD screen is an enlightening experience. While testing the product at the store, your mouth salivates with anticipation and awe at the clear color. Once you’ve made the decision to own one of these flatscreen suckers, the trouble begins. How do you hang the damn thing up without losing your pride and asking a handyman to do it? The Monster PowerMount (shown at CES 2007) puts the power of the handyman in your grasps, creating this useful contraption that makes DIY LCD installment a simple task. While the mount only works on LCDs up to 24 inches, the PowerMount has a built in cable management system to ensure no dangling or misplaced wires, not to mention a lower risk of tangling. While mounting the LCD still does involve work and effort, it at least can be done as a DIY project, with the ending result being a rousing success. — Andrew Dobrow

Homemade Pong wristwatch

homemade pong watch

We enjoy a DIY project just as much as the next gearhead, but this caught our eye instantly. Nothing catches a geek’s eye like the classic game of Pong. Mix that with a do it yourself mod project and you’ve got yourself an all-star product. The creator managed to fit all of the essential electronics in a 10mm thick wristwatch. The contraption manages to fit in a battery capable of a 25 hour charge, so it can be charged nightly for plenty of juice the next day. And surprisingly the LED screen runs continually instead of having to press a button to illuminate the time. Video after the jump.
