Ferrari Now Offering iPod Touch-based Audio System

It’d be super nice if we could all afford a $277,000 Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M, but alas, the world is completely unfair. It’s unfair because despite Ferrari offering up a limited run of 499 of these Spiders, its new iPod Touch dock will cost extra.

The 16GB Touch will feature custom Ferrari sounds and themes, as it’s the usual practice of a luxury auto manufacturer to include cheesy gimmicks on a phone or DAP when purchasing a car. If you can actually afford one of these slick new Ferraris, be sure to let us know how that dock is working out. You know, the one you paid extra for.

Apple Updates iPod Shuffle

If you want to call it an update, that is. For $49, you can score a 1GB iPod Shuffle in one of four new colors: blue, green, red and pink. Your old pal silver is still available, just in case you read too many Ziggy cartoons as a child. Apple has a 2GB version available as well for only $69, making it the better deal. Are you as excited as I am for these brand-fucking-new colors? Glad to hear it.

Woot! is offering two Sandisk m240 1GB MP3 players - yes, two - for the low price of $15 plus $5 shipping. If they arrive in box and come complete with everything, this is an excellent way to get some holiday shopping done on the ultra cheap.

Swarovski Crystal Earbuds

Calling all celebrities and women from Long Island!

Need a new fashion accessory to truly put you ahead of the curve? Try these diamond-encrusted earbuds that go great with your trippy iPod or Discman. Yes, Discman. Regardless of my absurd comments, a bunch of Swarovski crystals glued to some headphones will really show the other ladies who means cougar business. At $60,000 a pair, they damn well better morph into a Mercedes Benz or something equally amazing. But alas, you’ll find yourself cold, lonely and feeling very rich. All while listening to Phil Collins.

Swim With The Monkees

I never really thought about implementing an idea like this but thankfully, Speedo and iRiver have already done the hard work for us. The Aquabeat Waterproof MP3 player has both an appropriate name and look. It can go up to three meters underwater and has a mind-blowing 1GB of storage. Then again, how much music are you gonna need underwater?

With everything being waterproof, I tried to think of how you could possibly use this thing while swimming in the ocean. Then it hit me that this is the perfect MP3 player for your boat or jet ski unless you have an Otter Box or something similar. Oh, and it floats like a turd in case you lose it. Seems like a sure win for $145.

Mount a 21″ TV on your sunglasses

ibean.jpg

The problem with traditional head-mounted display is that they’re usually too big, it’s either the battery that’s too heavy to carry, or the eye piece that prevents you from seeing what’s going on around. This is even more frustrating for those who wear specs, because you cannot put on both at the same time.

A small Japanese company Arisawa seemed to have gotten it right with their new i-Beam portable TV. The eyepiece is so small that it can be stuck on any of you spectacles or sunglasses. The 800×225 pixels LCD is able to simulate a 21″ TV screen one meter in front of you. The eyepiece is linked to a remote controller which also houses the battery. You can hook that up with your DVD players via the AV-out line if you wish.

The full set of i-bean weights about 80g, the battery is good for 2 hours of TV. Arisawa will start shipping this week, suggested retail price is $350. –Sam Chan

Music floating in your bubble bath: flat-panel speaker MP3 player

victor1.jpg
victor2.jpg

Victor-JVC Japan is introducing a new MP3 player to their “health and healing” line of products, what’s so unconventional about this funny looking audio player is that it actually floats in your tub and plays music right next to your rubber duck duck. Wouldn’t water get into those holes? Good question, and Victor-JVC has it solved by using a NXT flat-panel speaker technology with water proof capability up to IPX7 standard; the down side would be that the MP3 player only has a mono-channel output as opposed to stereo conventionally.

This device weighs 260g and measures 12cm in diameter and 8.7cm in height. It runs on AA alkaline batteries, plays MP3 and WMA including those protected by DRM, however the internal memory is merely 256MB. This MP3 player is available now in Japan at $170, the first batch is limited to 1000 units only, be quick. –Sam Chan

Meizu rips off Windows Vista, after iPhone and iPod nano

meizuUI.jpg

Meizu (the Chinese company famous for ripping off other people’s designs and making them work better than the original) has done it again. After taking inspiration from the iPod nano and the iPhone, Microsoft is not spared either. But really, this time is just a soft rip-off, since it’s Meizu’s skin hacked by Meizu fans to make it look like Windows Vista, whether it really looks that much like the Windows Vista is arguable, but the fans are still improving on the skin as if they won’t stop until they have created the exact same clone. You can download Version 4 and give it a try, you might risk voiding the warranty however. –Sam Chan

iRiver X20 video player ups to 8GB now

iriver1.jpg

iRiver Japan announced the X20 multimedia player this afternoon. The X20 is reasonably small and light (98.5×49.0×14.8mm 71g), it spots a 2.2″ QVGA screen, stereo speaker and micoSD slot. The model will come in 2GB and 4GB, and to our excitement the company is also releasing a 8GB version that was not reported at CES.
