Cheese Wheel Case Mod Attracts House Rodents

It would be cheesy to call this case-mod “cheesy” just because it resembles a cheese wheel in both color and shape, but the Holland-native creator “always wanted a PC that looked like a wheel of cheese,” so he made one himself. He packed a hollow cheese display prop full of electronic goodness and even has included some fans on the back. How it increases airflow while laying flat is beyond us.

No detailed specifications on the parts used are noted in English, but you can bet it’ll lure unwanted rodents to your apartment within a week’s time.

First Ever Commodore 64 LAN Party

For a software platform that was discontinued 14 years ago, the Commodore 64’s legacy and fan base is still going strong. The Cincinnati Commodore Computer Club’s held its 2008 C=4 Expo at the Drawbridge Inn in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky from June 28-29.

In celebration of the LAN party status at C=4, a new Commodore 64 game was unveiled, called NetRacer. Up to eight players can race together, either over the internet or they can LAN it up with some ethernet cartridges. A little late on its release, don’t ya’ think?

Mouse Soap Not On A Rope

This mouse is done being a computer mouse. It’s tired of being man-handled all day, clicked and pressed all over. It wants to relax. The truth is, it’s just a bar of soap carved into a computer mouse. It almost looks functional but the only thing it’s functioning is that fresh feeling after a hot shower.

Not the first and certainly not the last geek soap creation we’ve seen, the mouse soap is unique because it looks more comfortable than the mouse I’m using now. That is, until one shower use leaves it looking like any other normal bar of soap.

Don’t Throw Away That Busted iPod Just Yet

Who says busted technology can’t have a second chance? After her brother backed over his own iPod with a car, Crafster.org user Stefferroo posted this DIY project directly inspired by the Nintendo controller mouse. She magically turned a ruined iPod into a working mouse.

Don’t let the screen fool you, this MP3 player does not play music at all but the creator decided to put a fake picture to let everyone know what song she has stuck on repeat. It goes great with a Mac desktop and looks solid in comparison to many of the mice we’ve seen. Nice job, Stef!

Google Talk For iPhone

The folks over at Google have released a new version of Google Talk designed specifically for the iPhone and iPod Touch browsers in the US. No need to text message here because you can now chat on the go. No install or download required either, just go to google.com/talk, sign in and you’ll be on your way chatting it up with all your frienemies.

Now that the iPhone is becoming more and more like a computer everyday, who says you have to miss out on all the internet goodness when you’re away from your PC?

AirPiano Beats Out Air Guitar

Air guitar is a big thing but an even bigger musical hit is on the horizon. Omer Yosha has created an interesting, elegant interface that uses infrared sensors to control music applications he’s calling AirPiano. Similar in concept to the theremin but with many more advancements, the AirPiano allows any untalented schmuck to wiggle his fingers above the board to make sound.

This is done by a virtual matrix of keys and faders above the board, each assigned with MIDI messages and ready to be triggered at the whim of the user.  Once those MIDI messages have been triggered it then relays the positioning of your fingers to a computer via USB, where the preprogrammed AirPiano software converts it into sound, or if you’re talented, music.

Two Jews, a Priest and a Cake Walk Into A Bar…

Nothing is better than technology through cake, especially when it’s a JDate-inspired cake! These baked goods are the product of two Jews in love who met on JDate.com. After some time, the couple, Amy and Adam, decided to get hitched and decided their wedding cake should reflect how they first met. Hope that cake isn’t being served during Passover!

Aside from the two 1989-esque laptops, there’s also cake Starbucks cups and what looks like a frosting-based USB cable. Since nothing beats a good Jewish bakery (Oh Kibitz Room…), I’m assuming these are some delicious goods.

Amphibious PC Keeps You Afloat

Swimming pool gadgets are the best kind of gadgets. Unfortunately, not all of them can keep people who lack buoyancy afloat.  Fortunately, for the lethargic, the “PC of the Swim-Rings” has a flotation device around the computers base which is reminiscent of a LifeSaver candy. The amphibious PC is fitted with a solar power driven processor, water-cooling system, GPRS receiver, Bluetooth wireless solutions, finger-touch input, magnetic charging interface and it’s even water-proof (go figure).

It could be used as a desktop for in-home use, but where’s the fun in that? At the moment the “PC of the Swim-Rings” is only a concept. A concept that, by the sound of the specs, is said to be better geared than any PC I’ve ever owned.

Are You This Lazy?

If you can’t even sit upright in a chair while on a computer without bitching about back problems, you might need the Lazy Geek’s Cushion. Why lie on a bed when this adjustable cushion can have you reading web comics on any filthy floor in the world.

With this cushion, one could even use their laptop on the floor of a filthy gas station lavatory to become a real Twitter shitter. It’s lightweight (if your back can handle it, you pussy) and portable.

So like I mentioned before, any floor in the world. Think about it.

No Keys Needed On This Glass Keyboard

This glass surface with the form of keys etched in it is the latest project from designer Kong Fanwen. Using a motion capture camera mounted at the top, it tracks your finger motion and translates it to the computer as if you were typing on any normal keyboard. The “No-key Keyboard” is the sleekest looking keyboard we’ve seen in awhile and is reminiscent of many other touch-sensitive glass gadgets we’ve seen.

No word on any retail information, but I’m sure that this’ll be a hit with all your co-workers at the office. I can’t wait to see the matching mouse.
