The End of Circuit City

Gizmodo has a few pictures of the last day of Circuit City. Inside? Nothing but fixtures that were apparently sold to a local Best Buy store. I bet Best Buy employees get free cake today. Mmmm, cake. Link

Sayonara Circuit City

March 8th. That’s Sunday. So that means you officially have about 48 hours to make your way to the nearest Circuit City in an attempt to score huge deals. I mean huge deals, too, ’cause come Sunday night, Circuit City will be closing its doors for good. With 567 stores around the country, liquidating the $1.7 billion in merchandise would prove to be a difficult task. Not so! People have been scooping up crappy, overpriced electronics faster than you can... Continue reading

Circuit City: Officially Over

We’ve been following the Circuit City bankruptcy very closely. Yesterday, we showed you some of the liquidation “deals” that readers posted around the Internet. Nothing spectacular there, but even less spectacular is Circuit City’s official website. It has no online store now and just announces the closing of all its stores, bankruptcy proceedings and other legal jib-jab. After 60 years, Circuit City is done and all that’s left is for Best Buy to continue raking in the profits. Link

The Front Lines: Inside Circuit City’s Liquidation

Technologizer’s Harry McCracken was brave enough to stop by his local Circuit City in California to see what all the fuss was about regarding the company’s liquidation process. Inside, he found mediocre deals on mediocre equipment. No surprise there. Harry speculated that as the shelves become more bare, the discounts will increase. We agree. Still, I think it’s worth checking out a Circuit City if you live near one. Chances are the manager will be more than happy to bargain... Continue reading

Breaking: Circuit City Liquidated, 35,000 Jobs Lost

MSNBC is reporting that Circuit City is done. Reports are saying that over 35,000 people will be out of a job by the time the entire company is liquidated. There’s not really any more information other than that and I’m not seeing this on other major news sites. Stay tuned if there’s mind-blowing information to be had. Otherwise, you heard it here (after MSNBC of course). Link

Circuit City Files For Bankruptcy

I really don’t see much of a future for Circuit City. If it’s filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, replacing CEOs, closing stores and losing cash, explain to me how the company is supposed to survive. Says Bloomberg: On Sept. 29, Circuit City reported a loss of $239.2 million that was more than triple from a year earlier after sales fell for the sixth straight quarter. The end is near for Circuit City. I’m guessing that by 2010, the company will... Continue reading

Beat A Dead Horse: Circuit City Closing 155 Stores

Best Buy sucks but Circuit City has fucked up so bad in the past five years, that it now has to close 155 stores. An official letter got sent over to Consumerist today, detailing the arrangement. Employees will not be getting any severance either, it seems. With its stock trading under $1 at many times, Circuit City has got to act quick to save itself. A merger with another struggling company could work, but to be honest, I just don’t... Continue reading

Follow Up: Circuit City Gets A Sense of Humor

Yesterday, we reported that Circuit City was up in arms over a Mad Magazine parody of the big box electronics retailer. Circuit City ended up asking stores to destroy copies of the humor mag and sent out a stern letter to managers. Now the company is trying to pretend it has a sense of humor and has issued what seems like an apology of some sort. You be the judge:

Circuit City Orders Copies of Mad Magazine Destroyed

Found at The Consumerist, Circuit City is apparently mocked to all hell and back in a recent issue of Mad Magazine. The shitty electronics retailer couldn’t take a joke, so it ordered it’s stores to destroy all store copies of the magazine. I find it pretty funny how Alfred E. Neuman managed to get to the execs like this. Hit the jump to view the letter from Circuit City corporate hack Elizabeth Barron.
