Chinese Man Who Created DIY Submarine Out of Oil Barrels Makes Water Debut

homemade-submarine1

Using nothing more than two years, $4,385, and some good ole hard word and ingenuity, China native Tao Xiangli created his DIY Submarine. We like to keep up to date with people and objects we’ve written about in the past so it’s our honor to let you know that the DIY Sub made its water debut on September 3.

Made from discarded oil barrels, the sub includes a periscope, depth control tanks and electric motors. Despite the small budget, he seems to get around pretty easily.

Sorry I’m Not Home Right Now, I’m Walking Into Spider Web Clothing

spiderweb

How would you like wearing a shirt made out of 100% real spider webs? Zheng Xianwen used the ancient method of creating clothing out of cobwebs to create this spider web shawl / shirt.

The shirt took him two days to make using the ancient methods. The good news is that he has plenty of spiders left over to snack on. Hopefully he didn’t leave any stragglers.

China Demands PC Censorship

cyber

Dell, HP, Apple and plenty of other computer manufacturers are flipping a shit today. Know why? It’s because China is nothing but a pro-censorship, communist country that shelters its people from truth. Starting next month, all computers going into the country will have to contain software that filters websites that China deems “unhealthy.” News, video and plenty of other websites will now be censored, leaving the Chinese population in the dark about what’s really happening in the world.

The New York Times has an in-depth look at what’s going to happen as a result of this. Be sure to check it out, especially if you’re heading over there anytime soon.

This Handheld Console Is Similar To An Everything Bagel

portable_multi_game_console_whitejpg

Ever walk into a nice deli and get an everything bagel? You know, the one with all the seeds, wheat and tasty goodness glued to the outside? It reminds me of this Chinese console called the CVFH-N03-4G. Boring name, I know, but this fucker can play games (read: ROMs) from the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, Neo-Geo and Capcom CPS1 and 2 arcade systems. Yeah. All that.

Now, what if I told you it had a sick 2.8-inch QVGA screen that can be output to your TV? Even more exciting, it has 4GB of storage built-in with the ability to add more via SDHC. FM tuner, e-book reader, MP3 player, etc. Essentially, it does everything. To top it off, it only costs $88. Better hurry before these sell out quick.

Google Android Netbooks Hit China

20090410110237967

Looking to get your hands on a netbook with some official Android goodness? While the US manufacturers haven’t caught on yet, China’s Skytone certainly has and would love to offer you the Alpha-680 netbook for about $100. It comes in white, black, yellow, pink and red. 3G, Ethernet, Wifi and USB ports are all included to get you connected and an SD card reader will provide you with more storage. You’re going to need it too since it only sports 1GB of solid state memory.

Essentially, it’s the G1 on steroids. Import if you dare but you might want to wait until something a little nicer pops up on the radar.

Blackout: Spies Penetrate US Electrical Grid

electricgrid

If your television goes out, you might want to hold off on calling your electric company. The situation could be out of their hands. In fact, the reason why your electricity just went out could be because of Chinese and Russian spies who have infiltrated the US electrical grid. Said spies planted malicious software inside the grid and had it gone undetected, we’d all be super fucked right about now.

To get a look inside grid-warfare, check out the Wall Street Journal’s piece on the recent hack attack.

Wheego Whip Coming To United States

weegowhip_front

Gas prices may be hovering right now but we should be focusing on getting off foreign oil and getting on to the grid. The Wheego Whip is the car that can help us do just that despite being made by Chinese manufacturer Shuanghuan Automobile. It looks just like a Smart Car, except it’s actually an all-electric vehicle. For $19,000, you’ll get a plug-in car that can hit a 60 MPH top speed and does 50 miles on a single charge. Mediocre, but perfect for short trips or if you live in a city.

Unfortunately, the Fed has to do a bunch of safety testing on it before it can be driven on highways and such. For now, it’ll be limited to 35 MPH, making it a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle or NEV. Have fun playing Wheego Polo in a few of these $19,000 golf-karts.

Good Parenting: Temperature Sensitive Bottles

baby_bottle

When you have an infant, you must warm up milk in a bottle for them to gulp down. However, too cold and the child will bitch and moan. Too hot, and Child Protection Services will be knocking at your door for reasons unknown. Cut the bullshit and just get this temperature-sensitive bottle from designers Hung Cheng, Tzu-Yu Huang, Tzu-Wei Wang, and Yu-Wei Xiang. If it’s too hot, the red face appears. When the temperature is jussssst right, it turns green. Even you can figure that one out, I hope.

Teacup Birdfeeders For Stuck-up Birds

Birds are classy. They deserve to be treated like royalty as they run a muck in our neighborhoods, waking us up with annoying chirps and shitting all over our cars immediately after they’ve been washed.

Etsy seller Ohthepollybilities makes these quaint teacup bird-feeders with an ordinary China teacup and some well-placed chain links. The seller describes its possibilities as “endless” but I see little productivity in this teacup for anything other than a bird feeder. It could be hung by a sink to hold sponges, or hung in your bathroom to hold your assortment of toiletry, but who the fuck are you, Martha Stewart? They’re are available for $20, a small price to pay for birds in your yard, chirping your name in the morning.

China Welcomes Back iTunes

After that questionable business China pulled by blocking access to iTunes (due to a pro-Tibet album), their Great Firewall engineers discovered that they’re able to selectively block specific albums from users. That’s right, iTunes is now available in China…again.

COMING THIS SUMMER…

CHINA: PART 2

Say bye-bye to pro-Tibet albums and anything not communist and say hello to a strong friendship with Apple. Does China do this just for publicity or are they really just Mao Zedong worshiping commie nut jobs?
