Hey Michael Arrington! Here’s Your Firefox Tablet!

Looks like a company called Impulse just came out with a laptop that’s perfect for Michael Arrington. It’s called the NPX-9000 and is being touted as “The World’s Cheapest Laptop.”

You have to purchase at least 50 of them, which is exactly what Arrington is looking to do, but you’ll only end up paying $130 a unit. What’s that get you? A 400MHz MIPS CPU, 128MB of RAM, 1GB of solid-state storage, a media card reader for increased storage, VGA output and 3 USB ports. It runs Linux and will include an 802.11g WiFi dongle. That seals the deal for me. Anyone want to go in on a lot of 50 units? You can’t beat the price.

China Develops Prototype Flying Saucer

The AFP is reporting that a Chinese company has built a real flying saucer. Right out of Mars Attacks!, the UFO looks like an egg but is so much more. It can be driven remotely without the need for a pilot or anyone on board and can go about 50 MPH. To boot, it can hover an an altitude of 1000 meters, which is pretty high. Sounds Hollywood-ish but I’m not about to start screwing around with aliens.

Developed by Harbin Smart Special Aerocraft Co Ltd, the UFO took 12 years and $4.1 million before a working prototype came out. The company says the aircraft will be used for aerial photography, geological surveys and scaring the shit out of families everywhere.

Disgusting: Goldfish Keychains

Apparently, you can buy keychains with live goldfish in them in China. It’s not only a stupid idea, it’s also sick and cruel. Though I’ll happily eat fish any day of the week, this serves no purpose other than to hold your keys and torture an innocent goldfish.

Whoever made this is one retarded fuck. Let’s throw him in a keychain and see how he likes it.

Cataloging China’s Knock-Off Goods

China’s “black market” is notorious for their awful rip-offs of other products. Amoni Exchange anyone? Pinches Chinos is a website which is focused on cataloging every piece of China knock-offs they can get their hands on.

From the stylish to the obscure, the results are hilarious. Whether they be specific attempts at ripping off another brand (such as the iFan or the Vii), or simply being lost in translation (such as our unleashing of the Sony scandal.) — Andrew Dobrow

Giant Pipe “For Tobacco Use Only”

giant_tobacco_pipe

This bronze tobacco pipe measures 2.8 meters (9 feet) across and clocks in at a remarkable 116kg (255 pounds). It is believed to be the largest pipe in China and is currently on display at an exhibition center in Hangzhou. Naturally, the pipe is intended “for tobacco use only,” but I’m willing to bet that more than a few burnouts will be having wet dreams about this thing tonight. An additional photo is available after the break.

Chinese government to control the weather at the Olympic Games

doc.jpg

Those mad scientists over in China have a crazy scheme hatched to make sure that nothing rains on their parade. The Beijing Olympics are rapidly approaching and with China’s renown downpours, cynics have dashed hope on a happy Olympic outing in the motherland. The Chinese government has decided to take nature into their own hands. They plan on using new technology to defer bad weather from the Olympic Stadium.

If a storm approaches the city, China will use silver iodide to force the rainfall out of the clouds before they reach the games. China remains ahead of America in the great weather control race, and the Olympics will be a good chance for those commies to strut their stuff. — Andrew Dobrow

Sparkling keypad for wearable electronics

chinacoinset_1.jpg

Wearable electronic clothing is nothing new to the tech world, but this is the first time we can recall a company commercially releasing a product specifically made to control your MP3 player through your clothing. The China Coin is a blinking, sparkling wearable control inspired from the old Chinese coins from the Han Dynasty.

The China Coin is 100% washable and is made of a soft polymer for easy integration into clothing. It’s powered directly from your iPod’s battery, so there is no need for any extra battery power, and only uses about 5% of the batteries capacity, which is a small price to pay for a cool lit clothing control device. — Andrew Dobrow
