Gadgets for Beavers: Cellphone Charger Made Out of Wood

woodcharge1

Apparently, being in the Russian military isn’t all fun and vodka. Hanging out in the woods all day might sound like a fantastic time (no, it actually really, really doesn’t), but in reality, it’s a lot rougher than you’d expect. Members of a Chechen troupe of troops have resorted to extreme ways of charging their beloved electronic devices.

This handmade wooden charger was made by Chechen troops after they realized that the 20 lbs. of charger cabling they hauled with them into the woods wouldn’t do any good without a source of electricity. Hence, the creation of a physically powered, wooden charging device. (more…)

Universal Phone Charger Announced By GSM Association

ucn

Praise be to Beetlejesus! If you’re like any normal human being, chances are there’s been a time where your cellphone has started to die and you bring up the age-old question: “Hey, does anyone have a charger I can use?” Of course not! You’ve got an LG and I’ve got a Samsung. Ray has a Motorola and Christie has the Nokia E63. Do you see the issue? There’s no standardization on mobile phone charging, but luckily, all that is about to change.

The GSM Association announced at the Mobile World Congress that all of the UK’s mobile phone companies have signed up for the idea of a universal charger. Hopefully, American companies will follow suit. The new charger will use 50-percent less energy when standing by and features a microUSB connection as the charging port. The idea is that by 2012, most phones around the world will use the new universal charging standard. I think it’s a fantastic idea; let’s just see how well it gets executed.

The reviveLITE Charges Apple Gadgets While Lighting The Way

I always find myself stubbing my toe when navigating through my room in the dark. It hurts like hell. If only I had this nightlight/charger for my iPhone. With the $40 dollar reviveLITE, I’d not only be rejuvenating my iPhone’s battery, but I’d also be saving my toenails from an otherwise gruesome deformity after colliding with an unforeseen object.

Developed by Scosche Industries, this charger is not just exclusive to the iPhone, it will also charge iPods as well. This is where I say goodbye to stubbed toes and hello to freshly charged Apple gadgets. It comes in both black and white. So, even if you were the only one who purchased the special edition U2 iPod, you still can have a nightlight/charger to match.

Custom Louis Vuitton iPod Trunk

Fashion is an expensive business I tend to avoid. For me, some denim jeans and a t-shirt from Macy’s will suffice. For others, fashion designers like Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel provide outrageously priced and strangely designed fashion wear. A price some people are willing to pay just to get attention.

Louis Vuitton also makes custom one-of-a-kind cases for special clients. Correction, special clients who are loaded. For Chanel’s head designer Karl Lagerfeld, Vuitton has fashioned this iPod trunk made of black Taiga leather with brass fittings and a red microfiber interior. An interior case within the truck can hold 20 iPods and one power charger. We get it, Karl. You’re rich.

Hand-Grip Charger For The Diesel Tech Geeks

Being stranded at the gym without a charger can be a problem when you’re without one of these hand-grip chargers. An ideal solution for scrawny forearms and drained iPods, the hand-grip charger makes finding AC outlets a moot task. It’s a great stress reliever, too!

Squeeze the handle and it charges the device attached to it. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong. Have you ever used one of these hand-grips? It’s like trying to arm wrestle an ogre. Most gadget-nuts won’t have the willpower or stamina to charge their gadgets this way and will probably search for alternative eco-solutions. Oh, and check out that clock: it’s 4:20.

Powerwise Table

I’d love to meet the guy who designed the traditional power strip. I’d like to ask him what the fuck he was thinking when he was designing it. You can”t fit more than one video game AC adapter and if you do, it fucks everything else up. This is why I like the design of the Powerwise table, designed by Swedish based designers Johanna Strand and Asa Elmstam. It features eight electrical outlets that are hidden inside the table. A green plug runs out of the table and can be plugged in. You can then charge all your gadgets inside your table whilst still serving up a delicious cheese plate.

Isn’t it great when life hands you lemons? In this case, eight of them.

Duracell Charger Is Good To Go

Portable devices are with you wherever you go. That’s exactly why Duracell wants to charge your phone or iPod. By powering handheld devices with its PowerSource Mini, Duracell can save you precious battery life so long as you charge via mini USB. Currently it comes in two forms: one for your iPod and the other to power your BlackBerry.

This isn’t any ordinary battery charger- it can power two, that’s right, two devices simultaneously with its second USB port. While it serves the same purpose as an emergency AA battery, it packs a meaner punch with a boring design. No word on the pricing or whether or not it’ll ever be able to charge inexpensive Bic disposable phones, but one things for certain: you’ll never not have enough juice to surf porn on your BlackBerry during your daily commute home.

Shake Your Ass Or Lose The Juice

It really stinks when you’ve run out of energy for your gadgets and can’t get to an outlet. With Orange’s Dance Charge, outlets are a thing of the past. It’s a portable phone charger powered through the kinetic movement of the wearer. Held within the arm strap is a battery for storing all the dance-generated energy.

So, to build up juice for powering your gadgets, all you need to do is shake your ass and show everyone your sweet dance moves. Though only a prototype, the Dance Charge is sure to come waltzing into the arms of every over-energized Dance Dance Revolution enthusiast in the world.

IOGear Emergency AA Battery

This version of a USB battery by IOGear is pretty nifty. One end works as a miniUSB plug, allowing you to easily charge your cellphone, MP3 player, digital camera or vibrator when you’re in dire need of some juice. The Gearjuice Rescue Chargers is a steal at $12. The next time you break down on the side of the road on some cold, rainy night and your cellphone doesn’t work, you’ll be wishing you had one of these.
