Just as I always wondered what my favorite mustachioed people of history looked like without their trademark facial hair, I’ve equally wondered what some of my favorite film and game characters would look like with added beards. It’s a thought that has plagued my dreams for years, but having no talent for art myself, and having no magical beard growing powers, there was nothing I could do. Thankfully, someone with a little talent had the same thought.

Croatian illustrator Vanja Mrgan had a few questions of his own concerning beards and famous faces. The result are a set of geeky illustrations which will rock your beard-loving universe.

A team of researches conducted the first ever video game census, analyzing the characters of 150 of the top selling video games. The results were totally unsurprising if you’re an avid gamer. 89.5% of the characters are male, 85% are white.

The most under-represented demographic was Hispanics, appearing in 2.7% of the games, only a fraction of their actual world population percentage. Males, whites and Asians were over-represented, likely because of the games’ origins. Hedgehogs and orcs, I’m guessing, were over-represented.

Having trouble creating characters for your next best-selling fantasy novel? Never fear. The Characters for and Epic Tale Postcard chart is perfect for such a situation. Everyone is there, main and side characters, from “the hero” to “the magic cow” (actually not quite familiar with that one).

The classic story of “The Tortoise and the Hare” comes to life on this clock by Ignacio Pilotto. The “race” hand is for the hours and spins around slowest of them all. The minute hand is of course the tortoise, making a slow but moderate pace around the face of the clock. Lastly, we have the hare. Fast and always ahead of the pack, he’s the second hand who’s ready to make a nail-biting finish. A great clock for your kids, kitchen or any room really.
