Star Ship Chandelier Is Certainly NOT The Enterprise

star-ship-chandelier

No way is this chandelier at all related to anything involving Star Trek or any of its trademarks. And how can you tell? The title of this chandelier is simply the Star Ship. So OF COURSE there’s no relation. Any similarities in the two designs are a total coincidence.

This NON-Enterprise Chandelier can be yours for $189 and not a Federation credit penny less.

Yummy Gummi Chandelier

I like gummi bears. I like ‘em a lot. Good thing artist and designer YaYa Chou likes gummi bears, too. She makes a slew of gummi bear goodies like this chandelier by linking them together with monofilament wire. The end product is a kick ass light source that’s good enough to eat.

Other gummi bear works of YaYa Chou include an assortment of sculptures and even a bear rug that once was soft and squishy but now is stale and hard. Ms. Chou, we appreciate your creativity, but whatever happened to eating gummi bears instead of building with them. Save that for the LEGO gummies.

DIY: A Water Bottle Chandelier

When you’re in the market for a new chandelier to decorate your home, style is everything. Sometimes style is outweighed by design, which is the case with this water bottle chandelier designed by Michelle Brand. We’ve seen chandeliers made of all sorts of recycled junk. Ballpoint pens, CD cases and even milk crates can be used to make impressive-looking household decor and the creativity doesn’t stop there.

Artist Michelle Brand uses cut-off plastic bottle bases to shower interiors with light.  So not only is she resourcefully recycling plastic, she’s also making a bitchin’ light source for your living room.

Chandelier Milk Crates Put You In The Mooood

Check it: a chandelier made up of milk crates. You thought kitchen lights made up of cereal box designs showed off how much you truly love breakfast? Think again. This milk crate chandelier is the first kind we’ve seen and it appears some effort went into making it. And no, this wasn’t some 20 minute project like a chandelier made up of CDs. Time and hard work was invested into this thing and the final project is surprisingly as visually stunning as milk crates hanging from your ceiling could ever possibly look. Nice job, DIY Maven.

Hang From The Chandelier Like A Monkey… A Much Less Hairy Monkey

do_swing_1.jpg

Much of the time, chandeliers are displayed as a room’s luxury centerpiece. Usually made of crystal or glass, I’m always so tempted to jump and swing from every chandelier I see, yet personal property laws tend to deter me from such actions.

The Do Swing concept is a light fixture which is made for doing exactly that. Hang from the ceiling, make guttural primate noises, work on your gymnastic act, do whatever you desire. The choice is yours. (more…)

DIY: CD Case Chandelier

recycled-cd-chendelier_69.jpg

While it seems I barely ever have a CD jewel case to spare, it seems some people actually have an over abundance of the cases. If you are one of these people, here is a cool way to make a chandelier from the empty cases, rather than just chucking them in the trash.

But what to do with the CD’s that would go in these cases? Well, these guys seem to have the right idea. — Andrew Dobrow

Recycled Chiquita Chandelier Attracts Monkeys

annekejacobs_chiquita01.jpg

Mmm, we love ourselves a nice banana. Most of us primates do. We don’t know if we could eat enough to make an entire chandelier of the packaging (instead of with the actual product like with the Bic Pen Chandelier), but maybe we should consider it.

Using only cut outs from recycled crates of Chiquita bananas,  this chandelier blocks most of the light coming from its center, yet produces a soft ambient glow. Not enough to light an entire room for most activities, but a cool effort nevertheless. — Andrew Dobrow

Bic ballpoint pen chandelier inks its name in design coolness

bic chandelier

We can’t speak for all of you precious readers, but we know that we would much rather rock something this unique and beautiful in our homes then a typical crystal ceiling hanger. The enPieza Volivik takes the Lo-Fi of writing supplies and the modernism of design and creates a piece that we have a hard time resisting. We’ll be the first to admit that $1000 is A LOT of money to pay for a series of Bic Pens, but for the amount of craftsmanship put into each of these Chandeliers, the money is most likely well worth it. The chandelier comes in both clear and orange, but the clear is by far the favorite of the two. It’s shipped in 20 pieces and we don’t expect supplies to last long so if you want one, go grab one before we buy them all with our millions of dollars….we wish.
