DIY: SNES Game Cartridge USB Hub

hub1

So, you haven’t been able to find that perfect USB hub to extend your peripheral horizons, yet you’ve been looking for what feels like decades. Forget about the middleman. There’s no need to buy a hub from a third-party as long as you’ve got some time, around $30 and a little technical prowess.

The SNES Game Cartridge USB Hub is versatile enough to be used as both a computer hub or just a standard gamepad for running all of your pirated classic favorites on an emulator. One of the coolest parts of a project like this is that it’s so personal. You can choose any SNES game you want. Pick your favorite or make it humorous (Shaq-Fu, anyone?). It’s your call. Check out a less “artsy” photo after the jump.

What If Your NES Played Shoes Instead Of Cartidges?

Nike is crazy about Nintendo. Not only does it make shoes that emulate the retro stylings of the classic NES controller, but now it’s producing t-shirts modeled after the packaging of the classic Nintendo Duck Hunt game. The only difference is Nike shoes have taken the place of the traditional packaging showcasing the NES cart. Oh, that and it now says DUNK HUNT!

And because it’s Nike, you know it’s top quality merchandise produced overseas and sold in the States at a knocked up price. $30 for any t-shirt would be murder, but for a Duck Hunt t-shirt – it’s the best value you can find!

FC Mobile Game Console Makes The NES Portable

picture-5.png

We’ve seen a pretty wide assortment of ways to mod the Nintendo consoles. Whether it be shoving the cartridges right into the Wii or putting the whole damn console right inside the cartridge, the FC Mobile Game Console accomplishes something that even the great modder Ben Heck hasn’t even been able to figure out just yet: making the Nintendo Entertainment System portable and widely available.

Up until this point, in order to lug a Nintendo system along with you, you’d need to carry around the whole system, plus a display device. Hardly a “portable” method. The FC Mobile console, powered by three AA batteries, allows for totally portable play with its built-in 2.4-inch LCD screen, which can also be hooked right into your TV with an included AV cable. Both a black and silver, as well as a red and white flavor of the device have started popping up around eBay for around $45.

Super Nintendo Entertainment System Brothers

NES DIY cart

Dubbed the “Famicard”, after the original Nintendo Famicom system, this cartridge has a full Nintendo Entertainment System built-in to it. Now we’re not talking about using this as a dongle or any silly thing like that. This is a working NES with controller ports, composite video and stereo audio out, cartridge loader and power button.

With a portable cartridge system like this, you could easily grab some controllers, a case of beer and bring it over your friend’s place for the most amazing ’80s Night you’ll ever experience. Be warned though, as the French company who’s manufacturing these carts failed to mention they repel females quicker than Mickey Rourke after a 4-day bender.
