4,000 Piece LEGO Chess Set
Derek Seiple constructs each LEGO Chess Set made-to-order. You pay, you name your specific color preferences and Seiple crafts a custom brick chess set made of approximately 4,000 LEGO bricks and plates. Each side of the board measures 22.75 inches, the King piece is about 4.5 inches tall. There’s just one itsy-bitsy issue. This chess set is so expensive that it would take Steve Jobs approximately 56 seconds to earn the money to pay for it. 56 seconds! Do you... Continue reading
Social Media Monopoly Board Game
Starring Mark Zuckerberg as Rich Uncle Pennybags! The goal is simple. Buy as much stock in the social media properties scattered across the board until you control all of the game’s money. Just watch out. You don’t want to land on Paypal or wind-up locked up in MySpace oblivion. Land on the wrong space and you’ll wind up backtraced by the cyber police. You’ve dun goofed. But hey, look at it this way. No zombies to avoid. Link [via]
Super Mario Kart: The Board Game
Inspired by the original SNES version of Super Mario Kart, the game’s board game counterpart recently made an appearance at the Tokyo Toy Show 2010, far from our own shores, but close enough to inspire a hardy “DO WANT!” to escape my lips. The idea is that two players each have a separate, parallel track around the board, and around this track you must shimmy and coax your “kart” (a plastic ball). First to the finish-line wins. The video of... Continue reading
Micro Processor Chess Set
Forget about bringing chess to the computer, it’s time to bring the computer to chess. Instructable user CrLz created this awesome Micro Processor Chess Set which is made using an assortment of computer parts. The board itself is made using the underside of a mother board, and 32 black microprocessor chips. The creator stresses that this is a work in progress, referring to this bad boy as 0.1 beta, but he eventually hopes to gather enough Pentium 586 chips to... Continue reading
Googolopoly: The Board Game of Tomorrow… Today!
While talk of Google conquering the globe has simmered down a tad, mostly because of the influence of other companies, such as Microsoft and their Bing search engine, the company still holds a tremendous amount of influence in the technical world, as was clearly witnessed by the hysteria following the announcement of their Nexus One smartphone. They’ve got the money. Now all they need is the motive. Do you have your own secret plans of world domination? Or perhaps your... Continue reading
Double the Pleasure: Scrabble Board with Double the Amount of Squares
True Scrabble geeks know that a game can never last long enough. Before you know it there’s no more room to create new words, the scores are tallied and BOOM, you’re named the winner, as usual. But us Scrabble junkies demand a more in-depth experience. This Extra Large Scrabble board is equipped with 441 squares, compared to the standard 225. The game also included 200 letter tiles instead of the usual 100. So basically you’re getting two games for the... Continue reading
Personalize Your Board Game Experience with My Monopoly
Monopoly is one of the most widely played board games in the entire world, so it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that players (or at least UK players as of now) can finally create their own personalized version of the game, featuring custom street names, places, spaces and icons. Hell. you could even create your own recession version if you really wanted too. As long as your willing to shell out the £79.95 it costs to create your... Continue reading
The Geekiest Game of Scrabble Ever
Scrabble is geeky enough to begin with, but you can imagine the depths of geekiness that can be reached limiting yourself to only words of geekage. The above board is the geekiest game of Scrabble I’ve ever seen played and likely the geekiest I’ll ever see. Even if you don’t use words like “vociferous” or “solipsism” you can still have some good ole’ geeky fun and earn a crap-load of points. Bonus points if you can convince the other players... Chalk Chess Set
You can play chess on any surface (other than water). Looking for a quick pick-up game? Just draw your own board with one of the chalk chess pieces and you’re good to go. The pieces might not be as ornate or as cool as some other boards we’ve seen, but it makes up for it with pure utility. The only thing limiting you is how much of the pieces remains after drawing the board. Link [via]
Chainmail Chess Set
I’ve had chess sets destroyed, maliciously sacked by an epic battle rudely interrupting a game in mid-turn. I swore that it will NEVER happen again. I refuse to lose a game in progress just because I’m on a crusade for religious freedom. This Chainmail Chess Set is made of the same stuff I use to protect myself from sword wounds while looking damn cool in the process. Chainmail chess adds an element of realism not included with other sets, produced... Continue reading
