What We Need is More Blind Artists

touch-color1

That’s what this world is lacking. Blind artists. No, I’m not talking people who would think are blind because of their awful color schemes. I’m talking straight up blind people. Don’t they have, like, a sixth (well, fifth for them) sense?

The Touch Color device allows blind people to create their own colorful works of art, using braille and tactile sensations to allow the user to feel the color, rather than see it. The temperature of the 24 colors included allow the user to feel the color’s intensity.

Braille Tattoos Allow The Blind to Feel the Ink

braille-tattoo

We’ve seen some truly unique body mods and tattooing. Everything from watch and glasses implants to tattoos showing off our favorite obsessions. These Braille Tattoos don’t disappoint.

Implanted under the skin are braille-shaped spheres which allow the blind braille reader to read the words of your tat. I have no idea what the pictured braille tattoo says, but I’d love to know. Any of you know braille or feel like decoding the message?

Braille E-book Reader

While the Amazon Kindle 2 is a fresh take on an e-book reader with its ability to read back books to you, some people who have a visual impairment could use something they can feel rather than hear. That’s the idea behind this concept braille e-book reader. Bumps change on a dynamic surface that can emulate braille, thus bringing a whole new world of reading to the blind.

Bright-F Gives The Blind Sight In The Form Of Sound

Imagine all of the beautiful visions you’d miss if you were born without sight. Until science figured out a cure for blindness, you would never get to see the blue sky on a clear day or how green the grass can get in the spring. The Bright-F concept hopes to give the blind community a chance to experience different shades and hues based on sound.

The Bright-F detects and translates brightness, saturation, and color into unique sounds. Forget about quality of life. This thing could work wonders for the simplest of tasks, such as sorting laundry into darks and lights. Finally offering the blind a chance to experience color, rather than simply texture. (more…)

Rubik’s Cube For The Blind

cube.jpg

And we thought Rubik’s Cube was impossible, even with visual aid. This cube puzzle is made for those without sight, instead relying on touch, rather than color orientation.

Each side has a different pattern which you have to try and align with other same shaped patterns. Having the oppurtunity to say “I solved Rubik’s cube without looking at it once” is also a pretty cool perk. — Andrew Dobrow
