PS3 Slim Gets Smooshed Into A Laptop

ps3s_1

The PS3 Slim was already beginning to feel a little chubby. Time takes a a toll on the body. Thankfully, we have Ben Heck to make everything more portable. His new PS3 Slim Laptop takes the improved hardware of the Slim and makes it even more mobile with his notebook-inspired mod.

One-Handed Xbox 360 Controller

sc_1

Righties rejoice. Ben Heck has done it again with a brand new mod. This time around the Heck-ster created a one-handed Xbox 360 controller. The addition of a semi-intrusive joystick removes the need for the left side of the controller. An added mechanism on the rear of the controller manages the bumper action.

While it’s not as pretty as some of his past creations, it gets the job done, leaving your left hand free for more important activities. Specifically while playing Tomb Raider. *wink wink* (Yes… masturbation.) Lefties are still left with no hands.

What up south paws? Gaming controllers got you down? Lack the coordination in your right hand to successfully tap out the X Y B A buttons? Who decided to call it the “right” hand anyway. We say, it’s the WRONG hand. UNH! In yo face!

Master modder Ben Heck busted out this awesome swapped Xbox 360 controller, a controller made for people who have a difficult time dealing with the default set-up. The controller also includes an added X Y B A set of buttons on its rear.

Ben Heck’s C64 Laptop

200904070658jpg

Dream for days of true retro-gaming on the go? Ben Heck has you covered. He’s put his master modder skills to good use this time around, creating a portable Commodore 64 laptop. Says Heck:

This project somehow has the distinction of being both the longest and fastest portable electronics project I have ever done. I originally started making a C64 laptop in the fall of 2006, and kept pecking away at it every so often. Finally, a few weeks ago, I said “screw it” and started over.

I redid everything in a week and a half – the shortest project ever. (The previous record hold was the Wii portable at 2 weeks) The goal this time was to make something that looked exactly like a computer from the early 80’s, yet in a new form. Including the color beige and texture

Full keyboard, SD slot for loading up programs and a display that rings true to the original. Nice work. Hit the link to see how Ben did it and plenty o’ pictures.

Super Nintoaster Makes SNES Games Om Nom Worthy

tb-snestoast1

Shove your Super Nintendo games right into the toaster and prepare to smother them in butter and jam. The Super Nintoaster brings the pure unadulterated power of toast to the ancient Super Nintendo gaming system. And let’s be honest, this poor console is in dire need of a makeover.

Basically what we’ve got here is a working SNES system packed neatly inside of a toaster, allowing the user to shove the Nintendo games in the bread slots as if they were prepping for a delicious BLT. Mmm… bacon. But there’s only one question now. How am I supposed to toast my bread? Check the vid after the jump. (more…)

When Miller Meets PC

Ben Heck, master modder of all things electronic, has taken a whole new route in his latest PC case mod. It seems Ben was kicking back a few brews of crisp, cold Miller Genuine Draft beer. So crisp, that Ben drank the whole thing, got completely drunk and configured the empty cardboard box to house a PC, CD-ROM drive and all. WILD SHIT! Read up on his official blog to find out how Ben did it and how he managed to mount everything to cardboard.

PS360 Controller

If you’ve seen the film There Will Be Blood, there’s a scene where Daniel Day Lewis calls his adopted son a “bastard from a basket.” I think that phrase sums up this controller nicely. The action of the PS3 with the cumbersome feel of an Xbox 360 controller. Brilliant. Who dunnit? None other than Ben Heck himself.

The Force Is Strong With This One

From the Atari Flashback Portable to the portable SNES, it seems almost every system has been turned into a handheld at this point. Over at the Ben Heck forums, user Hailrazer posted an impressive DIY project of his. Using an old Lazer Doodle he found at a flea market, he modded it into an impressive portable Nintendo 64 dubbed Darth 64.

I’ve always wanted to play Blast Corps while traveling on the road.  After seeing this custom handheld, I can’t help but think: what would be my favorite system to go handheld?  Well, duh, the PS3.  Hey, one can dream, can’t he?

One-handed Xbox 360 Controller

That son of a bitch. Looks like Ben Heckendorn, console hacker extraordinaire, has created a one-handed Xbox 360 controller. Not only is it the wireless version and ridiculous, it’s also for sale. Yes, Ben has decided to step outside his box of making one-off portable consoles and has created a controller that will be readily available for purchase.

For the low price of $130, you get a controller that is both unique and useless. You’re telling me you’re going to beat Mass Effect one-handed? Not when you have one hand on the controller and the other down the front of your pants.

Xbox 360 – One-Handed!

one-handed xbox 360

Ben Heck (he of console laptop fame) has designed and built a one-handed Xbox 360 controller for an injured Iraq war veteran. Most of the controls are on the underside, including the A, B, X, and Y buttons, the right analog stick, and both triggers (the left trigger is operated via the index finger, the right via the pinky).  Only the d-pad, the left analog stick, and the start and back buttons were left on the front of the controller.  As the vet who requested this had his right hand injured, this custom controller is made for the left hand.  Now if only someone ambidextrous would copy this and add a right-handed version, they could play against themselves!  Available only via special request from Ben Heck (or DIY). — Mike Payne
