MMS Messaging Arrives

The carrier file which enables MMS messaging on the iPhone is now live on iTunes. So a feature that should have been included from the get-go has just now gone live… more than two years later. Right. We love AT&T.

Better later than never I suppose. At least it’s working.

AT&T iPhone Users Already Starting to Freak Out About MMS on Facebook

att-facebook

Only an hour before I predicted, people are already starting to freak out about not having the MMS update appear in iTunes yet, despite AT&T’s insistence that the update will appear in mid-afternoon for us Easterners and late morning for the west coast.

Head over to AT&T’s Facebook page for a mildly entertaining look into the mind of geeks. Man… we are an angry breed.

Reminder: Tomorrow is the Day For iPhone MMS

mms-iphone

The big news this Friday is that MMS is finally coming to the coveted iPhone, which is great, because I’m sick of hearing people bitch about it. We actually thought we’d see MMS enabled with the big 3.0 update, but nope, took a few more months than expected while AT&T got their shit together. Let’s all get MMS, send off our first message and forget that the service even exists. That’s how it’s going to be.

Anyway, if you’re following along, AT&T will be upgrading your phone tomorrow via your carrier settings. Your iPhone will have to be plugged into iTunes for the update to take effect. AT&T plans to release the update by early afternoon EST.

So basically, you can bet your ass that around noon tomorrow Twitter will be in an outrage, full of people enraged that they haven’t received their MMS yet. Prepare for an onslaught of #myfirstmms hash tags.

Sprint To Apple: Fuck You Back

sprintad

Last week, I posted a little blurb Apple made about the Palm Pre and iTunes syncing. It was essentially a big “Fuck You” to Palm and its iPhone competitor, the Pre. Now Sprint is striking back with an ad that directly attacks Apple and AT&T. If things keep up this way, we’re in for a long summer.

Apple Sells Over One Million iPhone 3GS Models

intro-iphone-mapscompass-200906081

Ridiculous. Even with pouring rain covering half the United States, people still flocked in droves to the Apple store to pick up the latest iPhone, as we’ve come to expect every summer. Today, Apple announced that the bum rush picked up over a million iPhone 3GS models. And the madness doesn’t stop there. Over six million people downloaded the official iPhone 3.0 OS. Ridiculous.

AT&T To Charge $55 For iPhone Tethering Plan

tethering

The big question floating around the Webnets today is that AT&T will charge $55 for an iPhone Internet tethering plan. What’s not clear is if this $55 will include the $30 iPhone data plan. If so, it’s not a bad deal. But if AT&T is trying to tack on an additional 55 bucks to customer’s already high bills, that just isn’t going to fly with most people. Either way, those of you who haven’t hacked your iPhone to support tethering will have to wait until the end of summer to find out.

iPhone 3G S Officially Drops Today

iphone-3g-s-box

If you’re reading this on anything other than a mobile phone, chances are you’ve missed out on the launch of the iPhone 3G S. Stores like Apple and Best Buy opened early to handle pre-order demand whilst anyone who didn’t pre-order is probably crying at the checkout counter. PC World got some unboxing pics. Nothing really exciting, especially if you’ve ever owned a 3G. But hey, with faster hardware and better software, the iPhone 3G S is the premiere piece of hardware to own.

AT&T Boosting Wireless Speed Before Release of “Multiple” Upcoming Smartphones

speed

AT&T is cleverely upgrading their HSPA data speed later this year to their new 7.2 wireless networking technology, creating potential speeds of 7.2 MB per second.

AT&T notes that the new speed boost will be released in time for new notebook cards and smartphone devices. Can you say third-gen iPhone?

Quick Tip: Apple Now Selling Unsubsidized iPhones

apple_store2

If you’ve been waiting for the day where you could walk into an Apple store and buy an iPhone 3G without any contract bullshit, you’re in luck. Starting last night, Apple will now sell the 8GB iPhone 3G for $599 and 16GB for $699. While it’s expensive as hell, Apple should have no problems selling unsubsidized iPhones. I’m sure legions of hackers are already flocking to stores.

AT&T To Offer No-Commitment iPhone

iphonecontract2

Have $600 or $700 lying around and demand an iPhone 3G? Fantastic news! AT&T will now gladly sell you an unsubsidized iPhone 3G that requires no contract and doesn’t even need an activation. That means those rich nerds out there who are jailbreaking the device can scoop up a few of these without having to hit the eBay circuit.

I predict the program will be incredibly popular…after the recession. What do you think? Will you now get an iPhone now that you don’t need a contract or any of that nonsense? For the full set of facts and AT&T presentation, hit up the Boy Genius Report below.
