Nighttime groove: The Books, “Smells Like Content”
There’s a Chomsky reference and a Borges allusion here; add the fish and the formic acid, and this track offers more than enough science, technology, and culture to satisfy us. Video after the jump. Continue reading
Japan’s Frozen Aquarium
Japan’s Kori no Suizokukan, located in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture houses a collection of 450 specimens of 80 or so different species of marine wildlife captured at a nearby port. But there’s one major difference that separates this aquarium from any other — all of the wildlife is frozen in massive blocks of ice. A flash freezing technique is used to keep the specimens in optimal conditions at all times. Spectators are limited to only a few minutes of viewing because... Continue reading
Halo-Themed Aquarium Forces Your Fish To Be Gamers
If you asked your fish to list its hobbies, the chances of gaming appearing on that list might be a stretch. The most gaming your fish has ever done is swimming real quick through the bubble blaster, maybe even being lucky enough to watch you slave away at Zelda for hours on end. If I was a fish, I might even hate gaming. But nevermind your fish’s feelings, the Halo-themed Aquarium is sure to add some geek cred to your... Continue reading
Head-shaped Fish Tank
We don’t cover too many aquariums on Gearfuse for obvious reasons (we’re prejudice against tuna) but I love the look and design of this particular fish tank. Or you could fill it up with beer, smash it open... Continue reading
Local River: Art Meets Nature
A self-sufficient aquarium? To an extent, that’s what one could probably call Local River. The latest project from French designer Mathieu Lehanneur features a small aquarium with untrained fish swimming around at the bottom. Various plant life grows around the tank and the fish feed off it as they please. In turn, the plants provide nutrients for the fish and purify the water. I’m not a botanist, so don’t ask me the scientific details. All I know is that Local... Continue reading
